Crystal Runtime Error

Dave,

That is very interesting that when you re-install the crystal runtime on the
client it resolves your issue but on the reboot of the server it comes back.
I did, in my early attempt to resolve the problem, re-install the crystal
runtime but I still ran into the problem.

Still haven't tracked it down on my side yet of what is truly happening.

Scott

Mr. Scott: We are not using Symantec, we are using MCAfee. It seems
to be comming from the server because we can repair the runtime at
the clients and everyone is ok until we reboot the server. Then
everyone gets the crystal runtime error again.

I have two PCs that as of today are getting "Invalid Crystal XI R2
Runtime" when running a Crystal report. One is the AP Invoice and the
other is the Job Traveler. Both are modified versions but we have been
running these with no issue for almost a year.

I have run the Repair and uninstalled and re-installed the Crystal
Runtime.

The really wierd thing is right after I have done both of those they
can print without issue and then a little while later they get the
error again.

We are getting the EXACT same thing. We did apply a patch on Friday
that brought us up to 8.00.805h and we were thinking this had
something to do with that. However, I'm getting the same message
whenever I try to open the file using Crystal Development. It
appears that Uninstalling and then re-installing the runtime client
seems to fix the problem temporarily.

And of course Epicor support has no clue.

Dave,

I have not figured out yet exactly why it is happening but I suspect malware
of some sort. The reason I suspect this is that I have opened up Windows
Explorer on the PC and my Symantec AV installs an update but it is not a def
update. I really suspect it is doing a rollback of a file change it saw was
tampered with. We have seen messages in regards to ATL71.DLL which is
Microsoft's Active X Template Library. What a surprise Active X being the
target.

Anyway, in order for it to be a (so far) long term fix I need to be on as
admin and have it install the update. Then I log in as the user and again it
installs the update. So my suspicious are that it affected files that only
admin as access to and files specifically for the user.

Jeremy,

I have to say I have a dual monitor set up and my Crystal works on both
monitors.....

Yours has to be something in the setup....

Granted, here I have a laptop, but then it worked with a PC as well.

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
Dave,

The problems have come back. I still have not nailed it down but it
definitely seems like it is some conflict with a MS Patch. I did not have
the problem until MS07-042, MS07-43, & MS07-046. I am looking into these
patches to see what they are affecting.

Though I can still fix it short term by having Symantec update, does not
matter if you are on as admin or the user.

Are you running Symantec AV? I ask that to see if there is some type of
conflict between the MS Patch and Symantec somehow.
