We have a handful of reports that are still in Crystal that will not print preview in the browser. The completed report appears in the Notifications area, but when clicking on the report, nothing happens. However, if the client happens to be open, the report opens.
I have a support call open. They are trying to tell me to just convert them to SSRS which I realize needs to be done, but there hasn’t been a need to do so until now. I’ve asked if Epicor has officially abandoned support for Crystal in the browser. I’m still awaiting an answer.
If anyone still has Crystal Reports, are they print previewing in the browser for you? If so, what did you do to make it work?
At the Insights 2024 conference, another customer warned me the Browser UX doesn’t support Crystal Reports. We are still on E10 so I haven’t seen for myself though.
I spoke to Nathan about this at Insights, and apparently the release notes for 2024.1 state that new Crystal reports can be created and added to the menu.
We are on 2023.2 and have found that most of the time, these don’t work. However, I’ve had some Crystal reports working up until last week and they suddenly stopped. My workaround for now is to have the user open the Smart Client and just leave it minimized. With the Smart Client open, it picks up the Crystal Report being printed from the browser.
Nathan also added for me to push the issue with support stating that the browser is still new to everyone, but he suggested to first download the newer Crystal Runtime from EpicWeb to see if that fixes my issue while on 2023.2. I haven’t been able to try any of these things since I also brought Covid back from Nashville along with all this Epicor knowledge, but I’ll post here with results.
I visited with Nathan about in the Solutions Pavilion and he talked about Crystal Reports and 2024.1. As I recall, there is a newer (still very outdated) version of Crystal that has to be installed to work with 2024.1 and it isn’t backwards compatible with the older reports and environment.
While there are things I like about Crystal and many things I don’t like about SSRS, I’m retiring all my Crystal reports.
