Crystal Reports and CorVu - what a choice

If I remember the pitch, you need to have an SQL server to support this, then you need their
replication server product and then EPM.
Â
Like all whiz-bang demos, you need to add up ALL the costs to get a real apples to apples comparison.

Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) based upon SQL/MS technology.
Has data cube and prepackaged data views (slicers/GEMS) . Really cool
stuff!

From my limited experience, I very much am in agreement with what Vic is
saying. I haven't developed anything using the SQL side but my
experience with both crystal and Corvu is extensive enough to clearly
advise avoiding Corvu. The only reason we even have it was because we
could have done my due diligence during the sales process investigating
what it really was beneath the covers. Overpriced, and convoluted is a
very accurate description. If you can get the data straight to your
sharepoint in some manner, perhaps as Vic mentioned, Id investigate
that.

My 2 cents....

I have been using ASP for many of my reports and dashboards. Since I'm
a SQL customer I have the luxury of writing a SQL query and turning into
a View and then hitting it with ASP.

Similar to what you mentioned about Sharepoint, this alleviates some of
my users consuming seats when all they care to see is a dashboard and/or
run an occasional report.

I use this product called ASPRunner Pro. Up until I found this solution
I had zero experience with ASP (but extensive prior programming
experience). Within minutes I had my first ASP page together and live
on our intranet.

Crystal is great and powerful for those nicely formatted and creative
reports with conditional suppression, etc. Crystal Reports is a great
product but admittedly it's a little slow (well, Vantage is a little
slow, Crystal isn't). But it sits nicely within Vantage.

Corvu is not something I'm a fan of. I think it's over priced and
convoluted for what you get out of it and frankly I can do just about
anything with Crystal Reports and/or SQL/ASP than anyone can do with
CorVu.

All,
Sorry I've been asking so many questions lately- I really value your
insight and experience!
We have CorVu, and we have Crystal Reports. We are looking at
broadcasting to Sharepoint for some of the executive reports, so they
don't have to log in several times to get their information. In the
meantime, we have super users champing at the bit, because they can't
write their own reports.
What guided the decision for what reporting tools to use for ya'll?
Looking at Sharepoint, which will integrate better? What are the pro's
and cons, in your opinion?
I will search the archives of the group, because I know we've had
this conversation before, but any insight or suggestions would be
greatly apopreciated!
Thanks again, for your willinglness to share experience!

You can also do what you want with Epicor Portal.

Basically once you install portal and set it up you can publish your BAQs as portal views (with additional calculated fields, filtering, etc.) and then publish those portal views in Sharepoint. You can also consume those views in Office and in other contexts. Its pretty powerful but I've only just now started to work with it.

LeAnn,

Not certain if Corvu will be offered with E9, but I don't see why they
would drop it. It's a bolt-on product anyway.

Subject: [Vantage] Crystal Reports and CorVu - what a choice

All,
Sorry I've been asking so many questions lately- I really value your
insight and experience!

I think it's over priced and
convoluted for what you get out of it and frankly I can do just about
anything with Crystal Reports and/or SQL/ASP than anyone can do with
CorVu.

Corvu is not something I'm a fan of. I think it's over priced and
convoluted for what you get out of it and frankly I can do just about
anything with Crystal Reports and/or SQL/ASP than anyone can do with
CorVu.

Subject: [Vantage] Crystal Reports and CorVu - what a choice

All,
Sorry I've been asking so many questions lately- I really value your
insight and experience!

I do not think it is FRx repackaged. It is an SQL datamart with "GEMS"
focused on all aspects of the business. Your CAM should have promo

LeAnn,

Among the disks I received for Epicor 9 was a Corvu v5.1 disk. I confess I haven't installed it yet, but there it is.

Not certain if Corvu will be offered with E9, but I don't see why they
