Crystal & odbc

I contacted Tech support and asked if I could upgrade my 5.1 database to
9.1D and they said it would work but we would get a set of messages that
would pop up every time we opened a screen. Obviously that's not going to
do.
The speed increase with 9.1D and ODBC is great.

Hmmm. That's a good question. A question for Epicor. I know back on 5.0
they let you use the next version of Progress that had been released for
5.1. I don't know if Progress 9.1D would work for 5.1 or not????

Troy can I upgrade my Progress without going to 5.2?

If your report includes ODBC tables in Vantage, there may be some hope
yet.
I just got word from Epicor that the Error 599 which was caused by what
Ted
describes below has been fixed in Vantage 5.2. It seems to be related to
a
Progress 9.1C issue, which is working now in 9.1D.

See below for the Call# description on this issue.

Troy Funte
Liberty Electronics

Summary: CR 599 error when printing a modified AR form.
Description: We modified an AR form by adding a subreport that
utilizes the SQL92 ODBC driver. This report will print from Crystal,
but when printed from Vantage creates a 599 error. Crystal support
informs us that the 599 error is: "SQL Server not opened" Apparently
Vantage cannot find the ODBC System DSN. This issue is reproducable in
Vantage 5.2 as well.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Modify a Crystal form by adding a subreport (See ARFromBUP.rpt on
MNTech) Print it from Crystal - no errors
2. Make the report the default in Vantage. Go to Financial Mgmnt>AR>Gen
Ops and try to print the form - 599 error.

Response from Development:
SCR 4498 is available on 5.20.210.

Tester's note: Lib/crpe.i is used by all of Vantage's Crystal reports.

Due to a Progress 9.1C change in how it handles ODBC, the existing
Progress code (in lib/crpe.i) used to handle the Crystal dll's needs to
change. Please investigate and fix.

The 599 error refers to SQLServerNotOpened: Returned when the user
passes
invalid information to PELogonServer, or PELogOffServer. This can
happen,
for example, if the user does not specify the server name. In my
experience
599 is that ODBC cannot connect to the server. Most of the time it
deals
with an incorrectly configured driver, but it can also signal a server
issue.

You should thoroughly check the configuration parameters on the station
that
is giving you the problem.

Hope this helps,

I have yet one more question today.
We modified the pack list using crystal to include the # of boxes
being shipped. On some of my 98 workstations I can not work with
this amended pack list. Printing or previewing causes prowin32
errors. I am using Merant 3.60 32 bit Progress SQL 92 V91A driver.
I have only 1 98 workstation that works correctly. On some I get the
prowin32 error others give me Error 599 with a reference to
crpe32.dll (3258). Hmmmm any ideas on this one? Epicor has never
been able to help me resolve this. Thanks.

Ted...
Here it is all workstations configured identically. I can test my
connection and it tests fine. What server issue would there be if 1 station
is correctly able to work with this packing list? I only have 1 station so
far that is working.

informs us that the 599 error is: "SQL Server not opened" Apparently

The 599 error refers to SQLServerNotOpened: Returned when the user passes
invalid information to PELogonServer, or PELogOffServer. This can happen,
for example, if the user does not specify the server name. In my
experience
599 is that ODBC cannot connect to the server. Most of the time it deals
with an incorrectly configured driver, but it can also signal a server

Thanks.
