Crystal - ODBC

Where can I get the old Merant 3.6 (IVPRO15.dll) drivers?

I've the same problems with the Merant 3.60 32-Bit progress SQL 92 v
9.1a.
All reports base on this driver (PGPRO915.DLL) won't work properly while
printing through Vantage. The Error messages are 599 or 515.
In almost all our reports that we print through Vantage we use
sub-reports
based on ODBC to extract additional information that's not available in
the
dbf files. Using the "old" Merant 3.6 drivers (IVPRO15.DLL) works fine.

Epicor advises to use the IVPRO15.DLL driver.

Ryan,
I just got a brainstorm this morning (hope it's not snow). Did you
use
the Merant 3.5 in 4.0 and now are using the SQL-92 drivers for 5.0? We
were
using Merant 3.5 for 5.0 (which is the version we are on now LIVE, and
our
ODBC link to the POFORM.rpt works fine). Now in testing 5.1 with the
SQL-92
drivers, this ODBC link gets the Error 599. I'm thinking it has to do
with
the ODBC login/password that SQL-92 uses. If you notice, when
previewing
your report in Vantage it never asks you to login to ODBC. This is not a
problem with Merant 3.5 because there is no username or password. Now
in
SQL-92, you must supply a username and password.

This is just a theory, and when I get a chance, I may test this with
Merant
3.5. The main hassle of this is that I'll have to shut down Progress
Explorer and go back to ProControl. I'll let you know if I find
anything
out, and you please do the same.

Troy,

I will let you know if I figure out a better solution. I can't
believe
you and I are the only ones having this problem. It is really
frustrating to have spent many hours on our quote form and sales order
form and for them not to work with Vantage 5.0. I wish Epicor would
respond and try to get this resolved instead of emailing me what they
think is a fix. What I don't understand is all these forms worked
great
in Vantage 4.0.

Ryan,
I've been battling this same issue (Error 599) when trying to add
an
ODBC table to the POFORM.rpt report in Vantage. It works fine in 5.0,
but just as soon as I put the subreport in the report with the
ODBC.PORel table, then I get the Error 599. I've done all that you've
described as well.

I did find a workaround solution. Because we do nightly Exports
from
Vantage for other reports this option may work for us. Here's what I
found...
1. Export the POREL table with the necessary fields to a DBF file.
2. Create an Access Table that is directly Linked to the Exported DBF
table.
3. Create a Query on the above Access Table.
4. Create a System DNS for Access which points to this Access
Database.
5. The Access DNS seems to work fine in the Subreport and gives me the
necessary fields to pass in a Shared Variable to the main report. (I
just need the "ReceivedQty" from that table).

Once the above is set up, only the Export (Step 1) needs to be done
nightly.

Let me know if you have any questions. Also, PLEASE let me know if
you
find a better solution. I don't like this rinky-dink solution at all.

Ryan,
I just did some testing, and sure enough - the Error 599 disappears with the Merant 3.5 drivers installed. I have contacted Epicor about this as the problem seems to be with the SQL-92's Login procedure, and the fact that it needs a username and password to proceed. (The Merant driver needs neither). In Vantage the Crystal report doesn't get a chance to verify the login, and thus it gives the Error 599.

When I get a call number on this, I'll send it to you so you can join me in requesting that Epicor look into this "weakness" of the SQL-92 driver.

Here are two articles on the issue. The first seems most relevent to our situation.

Troy & Ryan,

Sorry I didn't recognize your problem early enough to be of
assistance, but I did have problems using the new ODBC driver with
5.0 on customized forms. I am using the 3.6 driver to avoid the
login problem. At the time, I complained about the change in the
driver mandating a login, but support said it was necessary and not
going away. While the added security is nice, most users would call
it a nuisance for normal reports, and it just plain doesn't work with
customized forms. It would be nice if they could require a login for
working with a linked table, but not for simply running a report,
form or query off of the linked table. I would like to add my name
to the call also.

Epicor about this as the problem seems to be with the SQL-92's Login
procedure, and the fact that it needs a username and password to
proceed. (The Merant driver needs neither). In Vantage the Crystal
report doesn't get a chance to verify the login, and thus it gives
the Error 599.

Did you use the Merant 3.5 in 4.0 and now are using the SQL-92
drivers for 5.0? We were using Merant 3.5 for 5.0 (which is the
version we are on now LIVE, and our ODBC link to the POFORM.rpt works
fine). Now in testing 5.1 with the SQL-92 drivers, this ODBC link
gets the Error 599. I'm thinking it has to do with the ODBC
login/password that SQL-92 uses. If you notice, when previewing your
report in Vantage it never asks you to login to ODBC. This is not a
problem with Merant 3.5 because there is no username or password.
Now in SQL-92, you must supply a username and password.

I've the same problems with the Merant 3.60 32-Bit progress SQL 92 v 9.1a.
All reports base on this driver (PGPRO915.DLL) won't work properly while
printing through Vantage. The Error messages are 599 or 515.
In almost all our reports that we print through Vantage we use sub-reports
based on ODBC to extract additional information that's not available in the
dbf files. Using the "old" Merant 3.6 drivers (IVPRO15.DLL) works fine.

Epicor advises to use the IVPRO15.DLL driver.

Ryan,
I just got a brainstorm this morning (hope it's not snow). Did you use
the Merant 3.5 in 4.0 and now are using the SQL-92 drivers for 5.0? We were
using Merant 3.5 for 5.0 (which is the version we are on now LIVE, and our
ODBC link to the POFORM.rpt works fine). Now in testing 5.1 with the SQL-92
drivers, this ODBC link gets the Error 599. I'm thinking it has to do with

your report in Vantage it never asks you to login to ODBC. This is not a
problem with Merant 3.5 because there is no username or password. Now in
SQL-92, you must supply a username and password.

This is just a theory, and when I get a chance, I may test this with Merant
3.5. The main hassle of this is that I'll have to shut down Progress
Explorer and go back to ProControl. I'll let you know if I find anything
out, and you please do the same.

Troy,

I will let you know if I figure out a better solution. I can't believe
you and I are the only ones having this problem. It is really
frustrating to have spent many hours on our quote form and sales order
form and for them not to work with Vantage 5.0. I wish Epicor would
respond and try to get this resolved instead of emailing me what they
think is a fix. What I don't understand is all these forms worked great
in Vantage 4.0.

Ryan,
I've been battling this same issue (Error 599) when trying to add an
ODBC table to the POFORM.rpt report in Vantage. It works fine in 5.0,
but just as soon as I put the subreport in the report with the
ODBC.PORel table, then I get the Error 599. I've done all that you've
described as well.

I did find a workaround solution. Because we do nightly Exports from
Vantage for other reports this option may work for us. Here's what I
found...
1. Export the POREL table with the necessary fields to a DBF file.
2. Create an Access Table that is directly Linked to the Exported DBF
table.
3. Create a Query on the above Access Table.
4. Create a System DNS for Access which points to this Access Database.

Also, PLEASE let me know if you
find a better solution. I don't like this rinky-dink solution at all.

I am currently running Vantage 5.00.331 and updating my Crystal
