Crystal - Error 599

Lois,
Below is the email from Dan Shallbetter about the File DSN. I was never able to get it to work myself (about 1 1/2 years ago, but haven't tried it since). Dan also sent the following links to shed some light on the subject:

Hello Babette

I added the the part & part rev table through a subreport to the standard
Crystal traveler report in Vantage 5.0 0. I am using Crystal 8.0 and the
SQL 92 driver that shipped with Vantage. It's been awhile since I created
this report and a lot of it was cry and error. I think what I did was
created a file DSN to use with the ODBC subreport. I also searched the KB
of Progress & Crystal for additional insight. Let me know if I can be of any
further assistance.

Lois,
Thanks for the info. Did you try the File DNS that Dan suggested? Like
I've said before, I have never gotten this process to work using the
Progress ODBC drivers that you are using. We use aftermarket Merant drivers
(3.5) and it works that way. Perhaps Dan can provide some more help for
you. I've never received a prowin32 error in your current situation, so I'm
not sure what next.
Perhaps as one more try... install Crystal but don't unistall it... Then
test to see if the report works while Crystal is installed. If it does,
then I have heard of others just deleting the .exe file for crystal instead
of fully uninstalling it.

this is win98 wkstation. It is working with Vantage off a W2k server. I
installed crystal and then uninstalled it. When I open the pack list in
Vantage and choose to print preview up comes the prowin32 error. I can
print/preview the pack list in crystal just fine. THis is ODBC Merant
3.60
32 bit Progress SQL92 v.9.1D. Vantage is 5.00.350.

Lois,
Can you give a bit more detail? Did you install Crystal? What OS are
you
working on. At what point do you get a prowin32 error (ie. when you log
in,
when you run the report, etc). Can you print/preview the report in
Crystal
designer? Which ODBC driver are you using? Which version of Vantage?

Lois,
On the workstations that use our modified POForm.rpt report (which
has
added ODBC fields) I also have to install Crystal 8.0 on each
workstation,
and then undelete it (which leaves the .dll files from Crystal on the
workstation). On XP workstations, I have to do an extra step because XP
removes all the .dll files when I uninstall. On XP workstations I
install
Crystal, then copy the whole "System32 folder" to a temporary location,
then
uninstall Crystal, then copy the whole temp folder back to the System32
folder -- answering NO to overwrite any files. This leaves only the NEW
.dll's being copied back to the System32 folder.

That should clear up your crpe32.dll error.

You do need to copy the crpe32.dll to your windows/system directory
along with the p2sodbc.dll.

The knowledge in this group is wonderful. I hope I can get help with this.

Have modified the Crystal versions of
Sales Order & the Traveler

Have added an new table to each.
Sales Order
OrdDtl. partnum --> part.partnum

Traveler
JobMtrl.partnum --> partBin.partnum

Have verified the database in Crystal.

When running through Vantage get an
'Error 599'

Any suggestions?
Contact me off line if the answer is too involved.

Thank you

Babette,
Adding an ODBC table to a Vantage form will NOT work for the SQL-92 drivers for Progress 9.1C or earlier. I just heard through Epicor that the issue is fixed in the Progress 9.1D version of SQL-92 ODBC, which is available for Vantage 5.2.
However, if you have access to the Merant ODBC drivers (aftermarket) you should be able to do what you are attempting. We use a modified POForm.rpt that has an extra ODBC table in it.

Wow Dan. I didn't realize you found a way around that problem. So you
created a File DNS instead of a System DNS? And that worked? Do you
remember what else you had to do?

Hello Babette

I added the the part & part rev table through a subreport to the standard
Crystal traveler report in Vantage 5.0 0. I am using Crystal 8.0 and the
SQL 92 driver that shipped with Vantage. It's been awhile since I created
this report and a lot of it was cry and error. I think what I did was
created a file DSN to use with the ODBC subreport. I also searched the KB
of Progress & Crystal for additional insight. Let me know if I can be of
any
further assistance.

Babette,
Adding an ODBC table to a Vantage form will NOT work for the SQL-92
drivers for Progress 9.1C or earlier. I just heard through Epicor that
the
issue is fixed in the Progress 9.1D version of SQL-92 ODBC, which is
available for Vantage 5.2.
However, if you have access to the Merant ODBC drivers (aftermarket) you
should be able to do what you are attempting. We use a modified
POForm.rpt
that has an extra ODBC table in it.

Just a FYI. The latest 5.20.211 patch has the following to say about this issue:...

CY Crystal Reports SCR 4498 5.20.210

To successfully print a customized Crystal report that contains a sub report and uses an ODBC connection, the following parameters need to be defined in the vtg file for Vantage:

VantageODBCServer=xxxxxxx (name of odbc server or connection)
VantageODBCDbse=xxxxxxx(database name)
VantageODBCUser=xxxxxxx(database logon userid)
VantageODBCpasswd=xxxxxxxxx(database logon password)
Previously, running the report would result in a 599 error.

Hello to Troy & Dan & others:

Currently using 3.60 Merant ODBC

Will try the
creation of a file DNS instead of a system DNS, etc.

It is frustrating since I had these and numerous other modified and compiled reports working in
Vantage 4.0 now I have to spend time fixing these in this enhanced Vantage 5.1

Will I continue to have problems when we change to Vantage 5.2?

Thanks for all assistance.

These errors can also be caused due to DLL issues with Crystal. 599
basically boils down to the ODBC driver not being able to logon to the
server.

Babette,
Supposedly that issue has been resolved in 9.1D of Progress (aka Vantage
5.2). I don't know of anyone who has tried it yet - I haven't had the time.
There is a set of lines that you add to the vantage.vtg file as follows:

CY Crystal Reports SCR 4498 5.20.210
To successfully print a customized Crystal report that contains a sub report
and uses an ODBC connection, the following parameters need to be defined in
the vtg file for Vantage:
VantageODBCServer=xxxxxxx (name of odbc server or connection)
VantageODBCDbse=xxxxxxx(database name)
VantageODBCUser=xxxxxxx(database logon userid)
VantageODBCpasswd=xxxxxxxxx(database logon password)
Previously, running the report would result in a 599 error.

That's about all I know for now. Virginia at Epicor was the person looking
into this issue previously and may know the most about it.

You do need to copy the crpe32.dll to your windows/system directory
along with the p2sodbc.dll.

Lois,
On the workstations that use our modified POForm.rpt report (which has added ODBC fields) I also have to install Crystal 8.0 on each workstation, and then undelete it (which leaves the .dll files from Crystal on the workstation). On XP workstations, I have to do an extra step because XP removes all the .dll files when I uninstall. On XP workstations I install Crystal, then copy the whole "System32 folder" to a temporary location, then uninstall Crystal, then copy the whole temp folder back to the System32 folder -- answering NO to overwrite any files. This leaves only the NEW .dll's being copied back to the System32 folder.

That should clear up your crpe32.dll error.

You do need to copy the crpe32.dll to your windows/system directory
along with the p2sodbc.dll.

this is win98 wkstation. It is working with Vantage off a W2k server. I
installed crystal and then uninstalled it. When I open the pack list in
Vantage and choose to print preview up comes the prowin32 error. I can
print/preview the pack list in crystal just fine. THis is ODBC Merant 3.60
32 bit Progress SQL92 v.9.1D. Vantage is 5.00.350.

Lois,
Thanks for the info. Did you try the File DNS that Dan suggested? Like I've said before, I have never gotten this process to work using the Progress ODBC drivers that you are using. We use aftermarket Merant drivers (3.5) and it works that way. Perhaps Dan can provide some more help for you. I've never received a prowin32 error in your current situation, so I'm not sure what next.
Perhaps as one more try... install Crystal but don't unistall it... Then test to see if the report works while Crystal is installed. If it does, then I have heard of others just deleting the .exe file for crystal instead of fully uninstalling it.

this is win98 wkstation.

Lois,
Can you give a bit more detail? Did you install Crystal? What OS are you
working on. At what point do you get a prowin32 error (ie. when you log in,
when you run the report, etc). Can you print/preview the report in Crystal
designer? Which ODBC driver are you using? Which version of Vantage?

Lois,
On the workstations that use our modified POForm.rpt report (which has
added ODBC fields) I also have to install Crystal 8.0 on each workstation,
and then undelete it (which leaves the .dll files from Crystal on the
workstation). On XP workstations, I have to do an extra step because XP
removes all the .dll files when I uninstall. On XP workstations I install
