Crystal and Progress 10 - CorVu

My notes from the MN users meeting a few weeks ago say it can be run from "Stored or Live" and then a sub-note under "stored" I wrote "sched to run at night". My recollection is this is an option for faster performance. But I also have notes that when running live the performance is actually faster than native Progress reports or RB and much faster than Crystal. On the other hand the notes I have also say it should be run on a "really hot, high RAM box for huge DB's and dynamarts" and "run on a different drive from Vantage DB" so there are obviously some performance considerations. We are having an on-site demo week after next using our DB so I will be sure to ask about live versus batch. Thanks for the heads-up.

Beware, looks can be deceiving. Yes, CorVu is extremely powerful and fast.
It's incredible how quickly you can sort through data and graphs, drill down
the information to specific records with the click of a mouse. But what
I've worked with it so far, it's not live. There is a scheduling routine
that must be setup, configured and executed to create the data information
which CorVu uses. On our system the complete schedule takes a couple of
hours to run through and updates itself at night during low server activity.
So if you require real time live data, I don't think CorVu is the answer.

Must be purchased. Pretty pricey compared to CR. I don't want to quote a
real price here (that's your CAMs job) but think in excess of $10K and maybe
more. Seems to be dependent on your number of Full Vantage users, and also
somewhat dictated by CorVu, whioch they license it from. On the other hand
thre ROI from what it can do is pretty amazing. If you have not seen a demo
keep an eye out for a webinar. In Vantage 6.0 they have added a lot of
pre-built reports and dynamarts for slicing and dicing the data. Very
powerful and fast. I drool to have such a tool.

Is CorVu (VBI) a built in function or a stand alone option that needs to be
purchased?

further developed capability wise and there was a strong sense that Crystal
will be the report writer of choice. CorVu (VBI) looks
interesting as a quick hit report alternative. Hadn't heard anything about
RB to CR conversion. The ODBC setup part to point at
Vantage DB could be interesting.
