Credit Memo for Sales Tax only

If that is the case, you will need to issue a full credit memo and reinvoice. This is the only way to move the sales amount out of the taxable column on the report.

Because our auditors want to see a credit memo (and so does the Board of Equalization in CA). Also, it will not show up in the sales tax report.

I need to issue a credit memo just for sales tax. A new customer gave us their resale infomation after we posted and sent the invoice and shipped.

I can't get the credit memo to post with nothing in the lines and only tax.

Any ideas (besides a full credit and rebill which is not ideal)?

We create a credit memo with a special "Credit" line item and credit 1 cent because you can't credit 0 amount and on the same Credit memo we credit the sales tax. Then we have to go back and adjust the 1 cent back out.

Why not simply adjust the sales tax off the invoice to the liability account.
