Costing Workbench Question

If you want to use Last Cost for your Purchased Items only then I
think that you need to perform a two-step update process: first,
create a Cost Group and then request Last Cost as your Costing Method
when you "Get Cost Details" for Purchased Parts. Do not roll this
group up, just post it. Next, create another cost group, Get Details
for all your parts using the Standard Cost Method and roll this group
up as you normally would.

I just saw this demo'd at Perspectives in October in the Hall of
Solutions so I am guessing that the Vantage software level was 8.03.405a.

By all means, check it out in a test environment.

We are set up as a Standard Cost Company. This year when I started to
look at my pre roll up cost for our next year standards I am getting
some #'s I wasn't expecting.

Its my understand since our costing method is Standard if I pick last
or average for my roll up the only thing that it affects is the Raw
Material (Purchased Parts)Price. While the Labor and Burden Costs come
from only the MOM. By this I mean if I pick Last for my roll up the
NEW Standard for any Purchased Parts will be the cost from the last
time we purchased it. And Labor and Burden will come from the MOM.

What I am getting is our Finish Parts are picking up the LAST COST for
labor and burden too.

What bad assumptions am I making or has something changed in vantage
that I am not aware of

Thanks..
Marty,

If all you parts are set to use standard (at least on 8.03.405b), Last and Average should be showing the SAME as standard. (Posted Actuals differing from standard offset via posts to variance accounts but don't influence last and average).

That would only change after you set new standards and the Last might reflect the old standard (and the average might reflect a FIFOish mix of o/h inventory receipted partially as old standard and remaining as new standard).

Did I misread something in your email or is the behavior we are observing completely buggy? (Frankly, I hope you and/or others tell me it's buggy as I don't like it.)
