Correct process to reschedule a job?

Typically if we need to reschedule a job we change the ‘Req/ShipBy’ date and save. When prompted to reschedule the job we answer yes and the due date on the job is automatically changed to match the ‘Req/ShipBy’ date - this is what we want. Although on some jobs this doesn’t work, specifically when we already completed operations associated with backflushing the materials then this process doesn’t work(due date doesn’t change). I found a work instruction on Epic Care documenting how to reschedule a job and it worked. Should we always use the process below(unengineer and unrelease the job, then remove from the schedule, before rescheduling the job)?

“Always” is a strong word and is key to identifying the incorrect multiple choice answers on tests.

When I used to be a production planner, I can’t say I ever followed that process.
I would go into the job and change the “Required By” date to what it needs to be and click “Yes” to the prompt asking if I would like to schedule it.
Then, based on how close the new date was to today’s date, I would back schedule (if far out) or forward schedule (if close to today).

If it’s a job that is already in process, then I would use the instruction for removing from schedule and rescheduling. We have had issues with reporting labor quantity at times on jobs that have been changed but have not been rescheduled in this way.

Otherwise, use the way you have been doing it for those jobs that haven’t run yet.
