Copying database

David:

I do this many times a week. We are still running V 3. I set up a
'test' database and all I have to do is use procontrol to shut down the
test database and then copy all the DCDV7.* files from the live database
directory and paste them to the test database directory. Then, I just
start the test database with Procontrol. My database is about 110 MB
and it only takes about 10 seconds to copy all the files. -- I don't
have to shut down the live database.

Can anyone in the group send us the procedure to copy our live
database to the training module so we can experiment. We are
currently on version 3.00.617.
Thanks, David

The quick & dirty method, if you're still on 3.0 / 8.3 is:
0) Make sure you have a good backup of your live data
1) shutdown both databases with ProControl
2) Copy the .DB and .BI file from the live to test directory
3) Restart.

If you're on 4.0/9.0 or can't shutdown, you can use the Progress backup &
restore utilities. The procedure is on Epicor's website, and probably in
the last month's archives on EGroups.
