I would like to call on the expertise of this group?
Any down sides to getting a Canon copier with fax capability?
Anyone have a Canon copier on their network as a network printer?
How well does it work for you?
I'm also looking at the automatic stapling?
HP makes a 9000 series that staples, faxes, etc... Anyone have one of those
or can compare to Canon?
I have never had Canon equipment before, Any/all comments appreciated.

Patrick,
We have been using a Canon IR600 Copier/Network printer for about 1 year
now. It works very well.
The staple feature is nice but the ability to print on both sides and with
the reduction capabilities you can get a 4 or 8 page to 1 page ratio saving
a lot on paper. I would recommend them.

We have a Sharp copier that is hooked to our network for printing. The
problems that it creates and the lack of performance is not worth the
"benefit". We purchased this product a few years ago and hopefully the
hardware has advanced.

We installed a IR-2800 with print-copy-scan-fax. Networked to 10-12 users.
40,000 clicks and haven't had our first paper jam. Network connection is
not quite as slick as HP, but not to bad.

Can't answer to Canon equipment specifically but we have a Ricoh Aficio
document center that copies/staples/duplex/collates/network printer/fax and
does it all very well. Faxing is treated as just another printer and
prompts for phone number(s) when printed to. Printing large documents
needing to be collated and stapled is far easier than printing one set then
copying. We evaluated Canon and personally I liked theirs better but
selected Ricoh because of price and established relation with a Ricoh
dealer. It is very handy to be able to fax an invoice reprint to a customer
and never leave your desk. There are other network fax solutions but the
cost to add fax to the copier was far less. Only thing I regret not adding
was scanning. Oh, and per page cost is about half of on our HP 8000.

Can't comment on the Canon specifically either, but we have a Ricoh
copier/fax. All of our copiers and fax machines are on lease and service
contract with a local office supply vendor. I hesitated to go with the
printing option because I didn't know the compatibilities with Vantage and I
also had visions of something happening to the machine would then
effectively take out a printer as well. Turns out I was right. Numerous
times we've had fusers burn up, drums go bad, etc. and the parts were either
not in stock or it took days for a service tech to arrive. During that time
we had no functioning fax machine except for the $100 Brother thermal unit I
keep around as a spare. The purchasing agent vowed never again to get a
combination machine. Just my $.02. They might be better now.

Rick
Pat,
We've had a Canon GP200 for a few years.
It was an entry level copier/fax/printer device (20ppm)
at the time. It's on the network with a static IP.
Cannon has good drivers for XP,NT,2000,9x.
The copier has the sorter/stapler and five paper sources.
It has been very reliable. Most faxing is still walk up
with paper scan...some through the device.
We were replacing a Canon copier.

We have a Canon GP200F that works fairly well for us. It works great for
Vantage. We also use it for desktop faxing, although the software isn't that
great.

We also have two Ricohs in the same family others have mentioned. They are
much faster than the Canon and work well for Vantage as well. We have had
some problems with our where the printer function will sometimes stop
working if a fax comes in while the printer is printing, but that's the only
ongoing issue we have had.

If you have users who scan documents, the Ricoh also has a nice, fast option
where it can scan documents and save them on the network.

Patrick,

We are using a Cannon Image Runner 330. It is a Fax, copier, and printer in
one. We haven't had any problems with it.

Patrick,

We recently got one each Canon IR2800 and IR5000.

The 2800 is set up as a copier, network printer, fax and scanner.
The 5000 is set up as a copier, network printer and scanner.
(the 5000 cannot be set up as a fax)

We've made about 80,000 copies/print outs between the two without a hitch.
We had our network guru set the print drivers up on the server, so any time we install a new PC, setup of the printers is a snap.

All of the printer controls are available on the users PC.
You can format your print job from your desk.
Although I have to admit while not difficult to use there is a lot of selections which could intimidate a casual user.

One feature we thought we wouldn't use but are now starting to use is called mailboxes.
Each copier has a multi-gigabyte hard disk where print jobs can be stored.
Since, in our case, these two machines serve all of our users they allow a user to send several print jobs to a mailbox.
The user then can go to the machine and print all of their print jobs at one time instead of laying in the output tray mixing with other peoples print jobs.

The mailboxes also allow you to store forms you use over and over.
In our case we keep our blank engineering time cards and blank fax cover sheets stored on the copier.
When needed we just print blanks directly from the mailbox.

The only really difference between the two (2800 / 5000) is paper capacity and speed.

These machines have only a slightly higher learning curve than a regular copier.

We have been printing from Vantage with no problems to this point.

We would highly recommend these multi-function units.

The 2800 is set up as a copier, network printer, fax and scanner.
The 5000 is set up as a copier, network printer and scanner.
(the 5000 cannot be set up as a fax)

We've made about 80,000 copies/print outs between the two without a hitch.
We had our network guru set the print drivers up on the server, so any time
we install a new PC, setup of the printers is a snap.

All of the printer controls are available on the users PC.
You can format your print job from your desk.
Although I have to admit while not difficult to use there is a lot of
selections which could intimidate a casual user.

One feature we thought we wouldn't use but are now starting to use is called
mailboxes.
Each copier has a multi-gigabyte hard disk where print jobs can be stored.
Since, in our case, these two machines serve all of our users they allow a
user to send several print jobs to a mailbox.
The user then can go to the machine and print all of their print jobs at one
time instead of laying in the output tray mixing with other peoples print
jobs.

The mailboxes also allow you to store forms you use over and over.
In our case we keep our blank engineering time cards and blank fax cover
sheets stored on the copier.
When needed we just print blanks directly from the mailbox.

The only really difference between the two (2800 / 5000) is paper capacity
and speed.

These machines have only a slightly higher learning curve than a regular
copier.

We have been printing from Vantage with no problems to this point.

We would highly recommend these multi-function units.

Subject: [Vantage] Copier question?

I would like to call on the expertise of this group?
Any down sides to getting a Canon copier with fax capability?
Anyone have a Canon copier on their network as a network printer?
How well does it work for you?
I'm also looking at the automatic stapling?
HP makes a 9000 series that staples, faxes, etc... Anyone have one of
those
or can compare to Canon?
I have never had Canon equipment before, Any/all comments appreciated.

Patrick,

We recently got one each Canon IR2800 and IR5000.
