converting inventory to consumable
will check the box of “Non-Stock” in Part maintenance works?
these are items that used to make the product and don’t need to track closely (screws, washers) but knowing qty on hand is necessary so they can be re-ordered. These items are currently on BOM w/ backflush, so i think it will do the Qty On-Hand tracking for me
thanks
I think you are asking for the system to automatically consume the inventory (not manually issued). Yes, mark the items as backflushed in both the part/site tab, AND in the BOM… also have the material in the BOM point to the operation that they are consumed in. That way when you complete the “assembly” operation, the screws ill be automaticaly consumed from stock. The system will automatically create an approximate inventory level (approximate, because we dont know exactly what they took from the bin). It should be STOCK and Qty Bearing part.
Another option that some people use is when they do NOT want to keep track of the inventory levels, because they have a vender come in and “fill the bins” every week/month… in that case, they mark the part as “non-qty bearing”… BUT they can also assign a cost, and a qty in the BOM, and also still mark the item as BACKFLUSHED… When they complete the operation, the system will issue the material, but the qty on hand never changes (it remains as zero). BUT the job DOES get charged a cost for the issued product.
thank you Tim
regarding cost, since we have expensed it to consumable items, so items are now at zero cost
But i will take your advise and assign a cost $0.00001 (and it will be immaterial), check both STOCK and Qty Bearing part. will it work?
btw-- are there any field that i can use to identify or flag the part is used for “consumable” on the part maintenance?
