Concurrent Co-Part Costing

I’m working on getting my company to embrace co-parts and have a couple issues with our first foray into “Concurrent” co-part creation that I haven’t seen addressed anywhere on the forum or in the documentation. For reference, we use standard costing. Also, I’m a design engineer responsible for creating production methods, but am not a sysadmin or materials/production manager that has more knowledge on some of the related modules. I just have to get my boxes checked to get a part released, then also get unkind words when my method doesn’t work the way production/materials managers prefer.

First, in workbench when setting up co-parts, are the cost/labor factors assigned for the full quantity of parts in the method of is it the factor for each of the parts in the method?
Example:
Part 1 qty 2 cost factor 1.
Part 2 qty 1 cost factor 10.
Part 3 qty 4 cost factor 4.
Is the denominator 1+10+4=15 or is the denominator (2x1)+(1x10)+(4x4)=28? I tried running an experiment by comparing actual job cost to planned cost, but that ratio isn’t working out with either method of figuring the denominator, but it looks closer to the first way (factor is for full quantity). Also, are these factors applied identically to burden/material burden when determining standard/actual part costs?

On a similar costing note, in workbench/method tracker when I use “View costs…” it only shows the cost for the parent part and not for the co-parts. In job tracker with the method loaded it only shows estimated costs for the entire job, not the individual co-parts. In Part Advisor the co-parts don’t show up in the history with the actual job cost. With the diffuse information in different modules, is there a simple way to find actual cost for each co-part from a completed job? If I can track down this information I could maybe come up with the right answer to the above question.

(Note: these are produced to stock to be consumed by a separate method; they are not “sold” so profitability report doesn’t seem to be a solution for this problem unless there’s a module I don’t know about).

The co-parts factors can be different if Part 1 takes more material but the labor is the same, then you would change the factors accordingly.
I believe the the denominator (2x1)+(1x10)+(4x4)=28 is the correct one.
It get’s into doing a cost roll which is where you will see very quickly how the different settings will work.

As part of your testing in Pilot - duplicate the parts and put in the different factors and run the cost rolls. (don’t post them) then change them.
If you are using Setup’s in your methods make sure to put in a value for the costing lot size.
