Company, All Modules, Account Specification

Epicor has a program that will let you reformat the G/L account number.

Good Luck,

Hello,

We originally setup our account specification as division length 4,
department length 3, chart length 5 - all numeric. Now, the CFO
wants to change the department length to 4, alpha. We have spent
several months setting the company up, but have not processed any
transactions. Is there any way to change the department length
short of starting over with a new company? Any help on this would
be appreciated.

Best regards,

If I remember correctly, that is one of the few places where you do not need
to have transactions for it to be permanent.

At least it was that way in Version 3. Once it was set, it was set.

I'm sure everyone will correct me if I'm wrong!

Unfortunately, Bob, what Manasa says for version 3 is still true for version
6.x.

Per Vantage 6.1 Help:
Dept. Length
It is important that you give some thought to your GL account number
structure before you begin entering GL data into the system. Once you enter
any account numbers in the master Chart of Accounts file, you cannot change
the Chart, Department or Division lengths entered here.
As you can see, entry of transactions is NOT required to "lock-in" your
choices! Now, you can probably have your CFO's desired change made to your
chart of accounts by way of custom programming. I suspect you know you
should also be prepared to hear "cha-ching", like a slot machine at
Caesar's, and that you know which way the coins will be going!

Scott,

If the account entries in the master Chart of accounts file were all
deleted, would it then be possible to change the field properties for the
chart, department or division lengths. The charts are going to have to be
re-done anyway, but the end goal here is not to have to re-create the entire
database and lose all of the setup that's been worked on over the past few
months.

Thanks,

Once you hit ok to the screen where you input the format of the accounts, it
is permanent.

Doesn't matter what you do, the format is there for good.
