Client Load time Vantage 5.2

Sorry, everybody for going back so far on topics.
I took Troy's suggestions to heart and did what he recommended.
Client To Do's after upgrading to a new version of Vantage...
*Uninstall Progress (old version)
*Edit the Registry. Search for 9.1C (for Vantage 5.1 for instance) and
delete all references to it. Search for "V:\" if that was your old mapped
drive, and delete all references to it.

When I load the Vantage client everything seems to proceed normally, then
Progress stops responding in the Task Manager and my CPU goes to 100% for
20-30 seconds depending on the system. This happens even on my Vantage
Server. Then Progress comes back and the log in window appears. No
noticeable lag from this point on.
Anyone have any ideas?

Hi all

I am still in the testing phase of migrating to Vantage 5.2 and I have
noticed a significantly longer load time of the client.
Has any body else experienced this or is there a way to speed up the
client load process.

I have a new server for 5.2 Dual PIII 1.25, 1GB Ram, Raid Stripe / mirror
set 160MB. So I dont think that it is the server but who knows.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Michael,

We're currently in the testing phase of upgrading to 5.2. I've noticed
a similar problem, although it only adds a matter of seconds onto the
load time. I think there are a couple of things that we've done to
increase the response time of the database. Firstly, the easiest way to
increase the load time is to create a schema cache file on each of the
clients and update the vantage.vtg file accordingly. The second way,
which is something Epicor had suggested to us, is to make sure on your
vantage server in the network adapter properties is that the duplex
property is set to 100mbps full duplex and not auto detect.

Michael, I have noticed the same thing here. Significant amount of time to
load. It becomes a bit of an issue as I try and get people to log out of
Vantage do to limited licenses and the expense of acquiring more. Having
said that, it's almost embarrassing to deal with a Customer inquiry and
saying.. "Oh, if you can just wait a few more minutes, I am still logging
into our system"

We have a brand new server loaded with memory. I was hoping that someone in
the group may have a suggestion to speed the loading of the Vantage clients.
I noticed that those PC's running Windows 98, are experiencing more
difficulties than those running XP or 2000, not in the speed of loading the
client, but are routinely hanging when moving through a variety of trackers.

Is anyone else experiencing similar difficulties, or have any suggestions?

We also found an increase in our load times here after going to 5.2.
However, a couple of things helped speed the load up.
- Exclude the vantage drive and vntgwk52 directory from the virus scan.
- After uninstalling the Progress 9.1C from the clients, search the registry
for any references to 9.1C and delete them.

Hope that helps.

Brian
You can also create the Schema Cache File on each workstation to speed up
the client load. Go to Utilities-Create Schema Cache File. You will also
have to add a parameter to the Vantage Command line on the workstation
(Just click help on the screen where you are creating the cache file for
details).
