Clearing default bin on all parts

Tony's advice is wise. On v.8.03.4xx, more often than not the plethora of whse/bin interacting apps have imbedded searches that can't be replaced with your own custom (BAQ/Named search) default search (that can filter out your checkbox field 'inactive' bins).
Â
At best, you might be able to come up w/ a handful of generic BAMs/BPMs that would at least warn users if an inactive bin has been selected.
Â
None of that will help if you use autoselect cycle counting groups UNLESS you created entire new warehouses for your new valid bin schema.
Â
Food for thought.

That's right. I knew I could do customization but the main reason is that in the drop down on the part screen it should not be available.

I would be careful with this because even though you use a checkbox## to store active/inactive, and you set up Search queries to only show you what you consider active, anywhere in Vantage where parts are moved to a bin, that bin can still be entered manually and parts moved to and/or stored in. Vantage wont' stop you. Just be aware of that, so that your labor entry doesn't put a part in a bin that in other places you won't see it because of your customization.

You could take care of this via customization and quick search setup.
Customize the form to add a checkbox for "bin inactive"
Create a quick search to then only pull in bins that are active.

So basically once a bin is created there is no way of deleting or making inactive?

We have a huge list of bins and it just makes it hard look trough.

I can answer your last question. The system normal operation will not allow you to delete a bin that has historical information. Even if you were to figure out a way to delete these records, I don't think I would recommend it. If you could somehow change the records to a different value for the bins you no longer want.

Sincerely,

Stephen

Hi group,

I'm looking to reset the default bin location on all part to 0.
We changed all our locations and set up a complete new numbering system for our bins so I would like first to set all default bin to blank so the user will. Be forced to select a location.
Also I would like to remove all bin records from parts that have 0 qty in them , is there a way to do it fast without going to each part? We have 3000 plus parts.
And last could I delete a bin from the master bin file if there is no qty in that bin even though there was transactions posted to that bin in the past?

Thanks for your help.
