Hi all,
I’m looking for a way to hopefully automate changing a “ship from” warehouse during order entry. Finished Goods’ primary warehouse is the DC warehouse. Other items that we sell as spare parts, repair parts, etc. are assigned to the main warehouse (MAIN) as their primary, but can also be in the DC. Since the primary warehouse is populated by default in a sales order, we currently rely on someone remembering to change it to the DC warehouse. Has anyone come up with a way to automatically or semi-automatically change the “ship from” warehouse to DC during order entry? I can’t change all parts to have DC as their primary, as they are needed for manufacturing. The DC warehouse is geographically separate from the MAIN warehouse.
Thanks!
What are you using as a trigger to determine that the order should be taken from the DC warehouse instead of the MAIN? Is is something the user knows, or is it a field that can be filtered by?
Right now, it’s something the user knows. Ideally, we’d like the DC warehouse to be assigned to all sales orders regardless of primary warehouse setting. Our exceptions would then be parts that actually ship from a different warehouse, but those would be the minority. Trying to take some of the “remembering” out of the process…
In Part Maintenance you can set the default warehouse and default bin for specific part numbers. If you are looking to update a lot of them, you might want to use DMT. I would think you want to set your parts to use the DC warehouse as the primary. Then any sales order you create for that part will use DC as the from warehouse. You can only change the from warehouse at the sales order level, if you have more than one warehouse with inventory on hand.
We used data directives to change release warehouse. If the conditions are met then the correct warehouse is used.
