We need to change the part Inventory UOM on a few parts, but the box is greyed out and will not activate the drop-down when clicked. Is there a way to change this value manually, or is that locked in due to having inventory or transactions against the part?
If there are transactions against the part, it is at BEST pretty difficult and sometimes impossible to change the Inventory UOM. Look under System Management > Utilities for Part UOM Conversion, and read through the on-line help.
It is locked once you have transactions. In a very small amount of cases you can use the uom conversion in utilities to change them, but it has a strict set of requirements.
IF there are very few transactions, then there are some tricks like unsetting the has been used flag.

Thanks all. That’s what I suspected. Unfortunately, a couple parts have a large amount of transactions. Come to find out they were setup incorrectly in the first place.
I tried the UOM conversion utility Ernie mentioned, but I receive a message: “Missing Conversion to UOM Code BOX.”
Any ideas on that?
I haven’t run the UOM Conversion program in some time, but as I remember the process you had to create a Custom UOM Class that contains EACH of the conversions from both your From and To UOM Classes and how they all relate to each other. If one of the classes you’re converting between has a BOX conversion, the custom UOM Class needs that also (whether you actually use it or not).
If you have a “large amount of transactions”, it’s unlikely you’ll be able to do it. Best bet would be to create a new part number and start over (I know that isn’t usually possible, but if the change is absolutely necessary, it may be your best option).
Thanks. I think we’re just keeping it as is for now. And thanks for re-enforcing my original thoughts on the activity.
