Thanks Andy. I might try this at our site as we've had that promsgs error a number of times. One note... Should the second line be:
"PROMSGS"="v:\\progress\promsgs"
instead of
"PROMSGS"="v:\\progress\\promsgs"
(I removed the second "\" before promsgs)?

Subject: [Vantage] "Can't Find Promsgs" error fix
Hi everyone,
A while ago we suffered periodic bouts of the dreaded "Can't Find Promsgs" client error message, which seem to occur totally at random. Since then I added two registry keys to each client machine, and hey presto - I haven't seen that error since! I can't attach the registry export to this email, so here it is in text form:
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PSC\PROGRESS\9.1C\Startup]
"PROMSGS"="v:\\progress\\promsgs"
"DLC"="v:\\progress"
Simply create a blank notepad document, copy the above text into it, then save it as "Promsgs_error_fix_Pro9.1C.reg" somewhere on the network. Then import it into each client - easy!
However:
* Use this AT YOUR OWN RISK. Innappropriately changing the registry on your client machines *could* render them inoperable.
* This will only work for Progress 9.1c (Vantage 5.1) without modification
I hope this helps one or two people :-)
