Correct
Hi Group,
I am wondering how you guys handle security access for the Business
Activity Query?? It seems to me that Epicor had the foresight to
allow us to limit rights as far as a user 'Editing' a query, but we
can't seem to limit 'Add' rights. We need users to be able to see the
query window and be able to run queries but NOT be able to Add new
ones!! The reason for this lies in the presence of the 'Query Wizard'
inside this tool. While a nice, easy way to present users with a way
of creating queries, this Wizard presents users with a list of tables
to choose from. And one of those tables is "EmpBasic" which if you
are doing costing, means that employee wages are in this table. So
anyone who has rights to BAQ can export this table and see everyones
wages!
So at this time, we have taken rights to the Business Activity Query
away from everyone but the Security Managers. So we've lost a lot of
functionality and now we, as Security Managers, have to run queries
for everone. This is a HUGE pain!
Input? Ideas?
Thanks,
Joey

If you mark your queries as shared, the users can add the queries to
their dashboard. Right click in the left pane and select item
properties. Add a dashboard query. When you select the spyglass for
the file, it will list all the BAQs that are shared.

We did think of this and although you can view the queries from the
Dashboard, you can't do anything else with them there. We NEED the
export to Excel and that's why we use the BAQ.
Thanks

Try a right click when you are viewing the query. Export is an option
(at least in 6.1). This brings up the export window allowing you to
choose the best format for the export and the location.
Hope this helps.

If you need to export the data, another option would be to use an ODBC
application like Access which will allow you to present, manipulate, or
export the data to Excel automatically.

We are on 6.0, and unfortunately, do not have 'Export' as an
available option when right-clicking the Dashboard.
We are using another Access application that I have created through
ODBC to get some much needed info out of Vantage and, if it's the
only way, I am able to create another MS Access application capable
of doing what this export does ...... but it seems bizarre to me that
I would have to go to those lengths when the BAQ is right there in
front of us! If only Epicor had built in the ability to limit rights
for 'ADD'! This seems like a huge oversight to me! Does anyone else
believe that you can't give users total access to BAQ and live to
tell the story?? If I let my users have BAQ, eventually they will
figure out that they can see all this EmpBasic salary info. Talk
about stuff hitting the fan if that happened!!

I only have been on Vantage 6.1 so don't know when they added the
feature, but just to verify we're right clicking in the same spot, you
run the query and then right click the results to get the export option.
