** Bug in 311 Patch! **

Hmmm. You're tapping my memory now, Rick. Ah, I think there were a dozen or
so Crystal and/or RB reports that had the newer PartPlant tables, as well as
the OurShippedQty and SellShippedQty (instead of ShippedQty). (Is 5.1 when
those fields changed??). We had about 200 reports in total, but very few
were affected by the changes. Of course our customized Vantage reports (ie.
poform.rpt) had the most work to do... not so much because of field changes,
but because I decided to start from scratch on those because of the amount
of customizing that we have done.

Troy:

When you went from 5.0 to 5.1, how many forms and reports did you have
to
change?

Just curious, since I'm poised to make that jump...

Well I went and done it
Applied the 311 patch yesterday

NOW
When you run a bom listing report and ask for a indented bom, it comes
up with a error
Entry 3 is outside the range of list xxxxxxx(part number) (560)
Called Epicor and they say its a known bug in the 311 patch and there is
no work around.

My General manager hits the roof and says were are not applying ANY
patches any more until we know they are 100% safe
Even if it takes 2 months to work thru the bugs!

When will we get a BUG FREE Patch

Ahhh!!!!!!!!!!

James,

I admire your strength! I have one question for the group - are we crazy to
keep hoping that 6.0 or Sonoma is going to be the answer to our prayers? I
used to work for Great Plains and understand bugs, workarounds, etc. but
breaking old modules is really a problem. I do really like Vantage and
software like this never works right out of the box but Epicor, help us to
continue praising your product and paying our yearly maintenance fee by
maintaining the features and functionality you already provide.

Just my 2 cents again.

Wherever, whenever, the next Perspectives conference occurs.......it's going to be mighty interesting if the buggy patches and ongoing MAJOR problems (like EWB/BOM) are not resolved long enough before to be just a bad memory.

Speaking of bugs... we came across a bug in receiving (we're on patch 308) -
if you use 'mass receipts' on items that are not in your part master, you
get an error, "No PartPlant Record Available (91)"

Yes, it's a "known" bug... and the 'workaround' is to click through the
error or don't use mass receipts...

James,

I just applied the patch to our standalone test DB (after backing up, of
course). When I run an indented BOM, it works fine.

Is there an epicor document for the bug yet? I'd be interested in seeing
it.

Thing haven't and won't change. I recall being the one of the first to
install Version 4 and my workshop staff couldn't use the work queue in data
collection. The "Work around" was to enter by using the Job Number, You try
to get 100 people on a workshop floor to do something different when trained
to use the work queue. It took Epicor 6 weeks to fix the problem and even
used that stall tactic of burning the Data Base and sending to the US from
Australia.

Now I upgrade to the Version 5.2 about 1 month before Version 6 is released
then you have a fair chance 5.2 is OK!.

A few months ago I was trying to encourage management to consider the
benefits of Vantage 5.2. But had we done it I would have been strung up
alive by now, based on the feedback I have received from the group. We're
glad to be sitting it out at 5.1.

I'm running .311 in a test environment now. I ran an indented BOM for ALL
assemblies (totalling over 1000 pages), and recieved absolutely no errors.
I ran an indented bom for 10 separate assemblies that I manually typed in,
and recieved no errors.

I ran mass reciepts for all the lines on a CDW PO for which none of the
parts are in our part master. I did recieve the PartPlant not available
error, but all the lines were still recieved properly, as far as I can tell.

Given the workbench issues resolved, I would say that .311 IS the most
stable 5.2 patch yet. We are still planning to update from 3.0 to 5.2.

Well after I posted the bug report someone from Epicor contacts me
and says there is no bugs in 311 and its a problem with our database
Then the gal I was working emails me and says that want me to upload
our database to them to try and see what the problem is.
Management is not comforatable with that so we are trying to see if
we can find the problem internally before we upload our database

So I guess I was TOLD WRONG
I was specifically told by the Epicor rep that there was a documented
bug in 311 then someone higher up comes back and says
No bugs in 311
Its your database

I am just tired of trying to fight the good fight for this week I
guess

Thanks

[Rick Gors] In the past I have sent them my database and they found
problems, solved them and deleted the database. No problem/concerns in my
book. I suggest you give it a try...it's easier then beating your head
against the wall.

Good luck
