Bracodes/ labels in epicor 10

Thanks Todd,

I suppose we are having two different issues then.  I am unable to even add the serial table to the RDD at all so it makes printing through the RDD pretty much useless for us hence the BPM custom code work around.

Hi,

We are implementing E10 and I'm working on barcoding now. What you are using for barcoding ?
Epicor recommends bartender so we bough it but I don't really understand how is working.

Do you still need buy barcode fonts if you are using bartender  ?
How you create barcodes on shipping lables or documents like pickticket ?
Are you create docs (lables and reports) in bartender and then attach to epicor somehow or you just using everything as SSRS report and print barcodes using C39 TTF fonts ?

I installed c39 font on both sides - means server and client so I'm able to print barcodes, but it is correct way to do that ? If yes what is purpose to have bartender except automation. We will have 2, max 3 zebra printers.

thanks

henry
We use bartender on E9 and still use it on E10.  We still have the older version and I think it is 9.3.  We switch over to the newest bartender this weekend.

What we did was create a copy of the stock data definition that Epicor supplies and modify the information to match what we use.  Once this is used it will create the GenRcpt text file that you can load into the label's database and then you can start placing the information visually.  Just make sure your RDD is correct and you shouldn't run into any problems.

The way we create some of our labels was creating a SQL query inside the label and on the reprint station, you select the label, type in the where parameter via prompts and the reprint station spits out the information as well as how many labels needed.

The barcode that came with Epicor is DataWorks barcode 39 and this is all we've ever needed so far.  And yes we install it on the server and on any client that prints(mainly for other reports).  The nice thing about bartender is the commander that accepts "text" files.  This makes it easy to create the formatted text file from any program and drop the file into the commander folder.

We are using Crystal with Dataworks 39 font for everything internal.  We have 50 Zebra printer and the BarTender licensing would be $30K.  We are using BT only for situations where a customer requires Code 128 or a 2D symbology – both are included with BT (as are just about every other symbology).  I am using RDD data (modified RDD to add some tables) to make MtlTags and Inventory Receipts labels and printing from native E10 print dialog – selecting the custom style with data definition).  Although having a couple issues with the RDD and the added tables at the moment but got some useful info here at Insights that should fix that.

Todd,

I'm curious if you could share the information you received at insights if you are having the same issues I am.  I was unable to make it this year and I've had to use BPMs to create the .bt files instead of using an RDD. For some reason some of the tables I need to add to the RDD wont add.

Thanks
Like Don and Todd said, if you want to create shipping, receiving or inventory labels you need to duplicate and edit the standard report data definitions that the Generic reports for bartender use, then you have to create your own bartender label and tie it to the report style in Epicor... then in a data directive (that replaces the E9 BAMs) you need to set the trigger that will generate the data for the label, since Epicor and Bartender never talk each other really, Epicor will just generate a plain text file with the fields and values that Bartender Commander will read and understand to print the label.

Bpms to create same type of files works better some times though.

I got some better info about the RDD issues I have been having when adding tables.  I need to check to be sure that the output is to XML before I link the report data set to Crystal.  I think the XML file I am seeing it a stub file used if the data goes to the database.  It is missing all the fields for the added tables so the linking in CR is missing.  I attended a few sessions that touched on changing RDD files that gave me a better understanding of what is going on “under the hood”.  Once it is working I will provide details.

I was still not able to get an answer about the issue we have with the creation of the .bt files for BarTender.  They omit the name of the printer and this is a known bug.  Manually editing a printer name into the .bt file makes it work but is not something practical for production.  There is supposed to be a one-off fix but what we have tried (so far) does not work and the “real” fix in 10.1 is too far off.  So any BarTender labels here will be via a SQL Server DSN (similar to ODBC) that will link BT to the DB and prompt for a key value (like Pack Slip #) to access the rest of the label info.  But anything Code 39 will be done with Crystal.

Todd,

I'm curious if you could share the information you received at insights if you are having the same issues I am.  I was unable to make it this year and I've had to use BPMs to create the .bt files instead of using an RDD. For some reason some of the tables I need to add to the RDD wont add.

Thanks
