Bom

Look at PARTOPR for the operations side and PARTMTL for the material side.
There are several reports on yahoo group that should help you also.

Sorry can’t help with the IIs ODBC question

Subject: [Vantage] BOM

Hi,

I was looking at the Data Dictionary Viewer.
I can find Part table.
Then I find the PartBom which is called a temp-table with no data.
Anybody know how the BOM data is stored?

Thanks,
Bruce Ordway

we are a plastics manufacturer and we make more that one part from
the same mold. we have two distinct nos for the parts but we need to
create a single BOM as both are going to be made on the same machine
and use the same material. In fact the entire operation is the same
except that the parts are different.

example a mould with two cavities is set up on the machine to make
two different parts ( left hand & right hand) and the rest of the
process is the same till the end. so we need to generate one BOM for
the two parts

any plastic manufatures with the same problem and the solution to it

We have a similar situation with welded parts that are made in pairs on the same welder using the same parts but opposite handed.

If the parts are stocked separately you will need two different part numbers. Vantage job orders can have one and only one level 0 part number, so you'll end up with two job orders per run. You can get away with only one BOM and attach it to only one of the parts in the part master, say the R/H. When creating the job for the L/H handed part, whoever does job entry must remember to get details from the R/H part in the part master. This way, only one BOM will need maintenance. Just be careful about comments in the BOM that are direction specific.

Each part can also have it's own BOM in the Part Master. This will make job entry easier. But you'll have to maintain two BOMs.

If stocked in pairs and used in pairs almost exclusively, a single part number for both parts as a kit with a single BOM will work. Just bear in mind that Vantage does not work particularly well with kitted items being broken up.

If you go by the two part number route, the two parts can be linked together by set-up group enabling the system to schedule them together. I haven't tested/used this but that's how it's supposed to work. However, I can't see Vantage generating a job order suggestion or an unfirm job based on a set-up group dependency. If you always run both parts at the same time, whoever creates job orders would have to know that whenever a job is made for the L/H part, a job order must be made for the R/H part at the same time.

Because the few items we have that are like this are stocked separately and have their own part numbers, we just pair the job orders together. The shop foreman reminds me vigorously when I forget.
