Bartender Blank Title 92267

Cool so from a BPM you will need to write straight ABL, first creating the headers of the .bt file (For reference http://jcg.pictures/gd6higcdjaQ7S.png ). First row includes all the info telling BarTender what to do, second just closes the parameters, third is headers, fourth is actual data.

You will need to create an output using the keywords “OUTPUT TO [file path]” and “OUTPUT CLOSE”

Within the OUTPUT you will use “PUT FORMATTED [string of stuff]” to actually write to the file.

Easiest way to output the CSV portion is to use the EXPORT DELIMITER “,” [list of fields from ABL query]

FOR EACH ttJobHead NO-LOCK WHERE … :

OUTPUT TO “c:\somfile.txt”.

PUT UNFORMATTED “%BTW% /AF= …..… ~n”.

PUT UNFORMATTED “%END%~n”.

PUT UNFORMATTED “JobNum, PartNum, ……. ~n”.

EXPORT DELIMITER “,” ttJobHead.JobNum ttJobHead.PartNum.

OUTPUT CLOSE.

END.

Hope this helps!

we are on Epicor 9

Hi all

We plan on purchasing bartender for the label design and to be able to print datamatrix barcodes.

What is the version I need to have to use with epicor 9?

Oh, it doesn't end there....the basic starter
package is 5 printers and they notch up from
there. The app is licensed on printers deployed to, not user seats.

That also does not get you the web-deployment
features....that's an extra $1200 or so.

Ok we have now 2 printer going on 3. I don't see our selfs going over 5 in the near future.
Do you have and idea what the going price is before I contact a resseler?
How do you use it for web deployment?

Yes, you need the Enterprise edition, looks about
$3K with the basic 5 printer lisc. I believe
additional printer 5-packs are $1200.

Start here for information of how/what to buy.
http://www.seagullscientific.com/aspx/btw_table_of_contents.aspx

I'm not sure if you have to buy the basic package
from Epicor or if you can get it from anyone. We
bought the basic package from Epicor but the
Extended Support Lisc from a different reseller
(Epicor did not provide that capability).

Just an FYI: the way Bartender is used with
Vantage is apparently via Crystal and each label
has to be somehow setup in Vantage as a Crystal
Object. When we saw how complicated it was we
opted not to install our labels in Vantage but to
perform label printing outside of Vantage.

The Epicor Consultant who was installing
BarTender at the time said we should be just
designing and printing our bar coded labels in
Crystal but we do not have Crystal expertise
in-house and using Crystal forms as labels in
Vantage would not allow for the variable input
that has to accompany the stock data on the label.

We thought that we could ODBC the database for
data to insert into the label......not so
according to Seagull. I believe that feature is
with the web-enabled licensing and as I recall
the cost of that was another $3K or so.

We ended up installing BarTender with Label libraries on a common drive.

In retrospect, Seagull's reputation is not that
good and had we not bought Bartender on the basis
of the Epicor recommendation, we could have
picked another product and accomplished more for less.

Thanks Bob for the detailed reply

What i basically want is to modify the labels supplied with epicor 9 for Parts receipt so i can use it for my inventory
right now im using a label software but we have to retype every part # and description and it causes mistakes so i would like to be able to print from the receiving all labels for the parts but i need to modify the default label.

Hi Group,

I'm looking for a ballpark price for bartender. Has anyone purchased it
lately?

Do you need the license from Epicor for Bartender to output information to the Reports location.  We purchased bartender without going through Epicor.  I was wondering if we need to have the automation license turned on for that functionality.

No. BarTender is not Epicor specific. All it’s looking for is to have a file dropped in X location it’s watching and it will process it. However… you do need a specific version of BarTender. The Automation Suite. Without that BarTender will not work with any system, other than as a standalone product used like Word or Excel.

Okay I guess I'm having some issues then I'm not getting Epicor to drop the RDD in the right location then or at all.  I'm on Epicor 9.05.702 64bit progress

There are only a few RDD that work with BarTender. They all start with Gen[Something] I.E. GenJob.

They drop a .bt file wherever specified in the report style. BarTender Commander then picks that up and processes it (really as a CSV, that’s all it is) and renames it as whatever you specify in your commander setup. Typically you will set it for .btp (bt printed) but you could set it for .iloveepicor if you really wanted.

I also have used BAQs and C# to generate the CSV data in certain screens where the RDD either do not trigger from (the Bartender RDDs only work from a BAM)

If RDD is not available, other option is to write a BPM to output the data in a file.If you have multi plant operation and wish to print to different printers, it gives the flexibility to output the same data (e.g. PO receipts) into different folders based on Epicor plant.

Arul

I agree with Arul's and Joshua's approach.  I avoided Crystal, RDDs and Printer setup in Epicor altogether.  I just wrote a fairly simple BPM to iterate through the datasets and create a CSV that drops into a folder as a .bt file.  The label was designed using Bartender and Commander does the rest.  This was also easy for me to setup as it prints in different countries depending on where the label was made.
do you guys have examples of your BPM I can use.  I would like to use it for receiving labels

Epicor 9 or 10
