Barcode Equipment

We've incorporated the Job Number, Assembly Number and Operation Number into
one scan. We're using a WelchAllyn Valueteam 3060/3080 scanner. The
scanner has some programmable features that are available. Here is the
formula for Crystal Reports.

"*" + TRIM({jobasmbl.BCJOBNUM}) + "$I" + TRIM({jobasmbl.BCASMSEQ}) + "$I" +
TRIM({joboper.BCOPRSEQ}) + "$I*"

Please contact Mike at Ryzex mikea@... He can hook you up with these
scanners.

FYI we're using these scanners on some old 166 and 133 Mhz data collection
machines in the shop and don't have any problems.

We tried using scanners a few years ago to collect time through Data
Collection. The shop employees told us this method was not as easy as using
the keyboard and mouse. However, one of our Continuous Improvement Teams is
trying to revive the issue. Is anyone successfully using scanners for Data
Collection? If so, what if any changes were made to the Job Traveler to
make the scanning more efficient? We tried to incorporate the Job Number,
Assembly Number and Operation Number into one scan, with the appropriate
tabs to move from field to field, but found the machine could not "keep up"
with the speed of the scanning which resulted in numerous errors. I agree
that scanning would eliminate some of the human errors that occur, but
unless someone has some insight into how to make the scanning process more
efficient, I think we will have to stay with the keyboard and mouse for now.
Any insight would be helpful.

Thanks,

What type / brand of bar coding equipment is being used out there
with Vantage? We are looking into getting a couple thermal printers
and scan guns. What is involved with implementing bar coding into
Vantage, in what way are you using it and how well does it work?

Thanks!

We are also looking for bar coding information. My Operations Manager
wants to use bar codes for receiving from vendors, shipping to customers
and inventory counts/adjustments. I was at the Detroit Area Vantage
Users Group meeting yesterday and nobody there was using bar codes. I
would be interested in the same information.

Erik Smalley,
also
Debbie Fulgenzi,

We are using Zebra 105se label printers and Zebex CCD Bar code readers. The
bar code readers are used in stockroom to pull the correct SO for item label
printing and shipping department to create Shipping Headers off of SO Pick
list which have the SO numbers bar coded. This eliminates any errors in
creating the Packing Slip. We spent around $130 for the readers and around
$1500 for the printers.
