BAQ Report security

I usually click the shared button the first thing. I either missed this
step or clicked it off when I was saving the BAQ. That fixed the problem.

Thank you Brian

Is the BAQ marked as shared?

What does the detail show in the System Monitor?

Subject: [Vantage] BAQ Report security

I created a BAQ Report using only the LaborDtl table. I can run the report,
but I have System Admin security. I have a guy that has security so he can
add, edit and delete labor details. He cannot run the report. As soon as
he hits the print button, the print job moves to his System Monitor -
History tab. The Status shows error, but he never receives an error
message. Does anyone know which Security process I need to open up so he
can run the report?

Thank you

Jeff

I am just curious to find out how many Vantage admins one company has. Anyone out there have help, or are you running a one-man show?

Thanks
We've been live on 8.03.405 for a year now. I have two locations, three companies (Corporate plus two divisions), about 180 employees, 40 Vantage and 20 MES licenses, and an IT dept of two including myself. I spend 80% of my time these days dealing with Vantage, although some of that will taper off I expect as we deal with the fallout of a somewhat-poor second half of our implementation.

I would expect however to spend at least 1/2FTE ongoing just supporting, maintaining, patching, and customizing the ERP system. There will always be demand for new reports, process changes, etc.

We have two.

We support two facilities, one with 270 users (70 professional staff and
200 production employees) and the other has 60 employees (20
professional staff and 40 production employees).

All production employees use MES and about 2/3 of professional staff use
full Vantage.

With that said, our work queue is full. Mainly with report,
customization, and BPM requests. (But mostly reports).

We have one admin who supports most of the back office type stuff (user administration, starting and stopping databases, etc.). I am backup for that person. However, we also have three people (the administrator, one other person, and me) who handle various customizations, programming, and reporting. All of us have other jobs as our primary responsibility. None of us spend more than 40% of our time related to administration, customization, and report development. To give you a reference for company size, we have about 100 employees and we are running Vista 8.03.403.

I am an IT staff of 1. I handle almost everything. We are only a company of
1 office with 20 office users, 5 shop employees and 10 remote
engineers/salesmen.

We do have an outside company who built our network before I got here, so
they handle the major projects of server configuration and upgrades,
Router/Firewall configuration, and things like that. They will probably go
away at some point, but not til Vantage is actually implimented, and at that
point I may be able to hire a minion of my own to make it 2 people in IT.

I have two network administrators that manage all of the hardware configurations, backups, restores, etc related to Vantage (in addition to the normal network admin roles). They also assist with random system issues, progress issues and network related vantage issues. The rest of the work is done mostly by me, all report requests, customization, training, new employee set up, etc. We are a company of 100+ employees we have 30 licenses and are multi-company (3 companies) and multi-plant (5 plants in one company). One of our network administrators, does have admin rights in Vantage and he is a back up to me when necessary, but that is pretty rare.

135 employees, at one site, of this 30 are "knowledge workers". 33 full seats, 14 DC on 6.10.543. One man IT shop and I do all the Vantage admin but have a couple semi-system literate users that help out. Also handling networking, PC hardware, phone system & service, web sites, copiers, user support for Office tools and developing marketing literature. So Vantage alone is much less than full time task. Had a part time assistant a couple times but it was more bother than it was worth. Never again unless they are full-time and permanently devoted to IT.

We are very similar in size to another post. 180 employees, 40 User, 20 MES, 2 Divisions, an IT staff of 2. We have a few people besides our IT staff that help with BAQ's and BPM's - that helps during peak demand. Always seems everyone needs something new at the same time.

Sincerely,

Stephen

Currently we are a 2 person operation. We run Vantage 8.03.407c

I handle Vantage Admin, upgrades, process improvement, SQL admin, and all modules tied to Vantage. I also handle all other aspects of managing the department like budgeting, planning, staffing, and lean implementation.

My Admin takes care of all desktop and network related issues.

We are both cross-trained in critical areas. My admin knows how to kill people's Vantage sessions and start/stop the app servers. I know how to handle the basics of desktop and server support.

Pretty soon we will be looking to add a 3rd member to my team. We are getting ready to start a Sharepoint implementation that will bring us into the realm of document management and paperless office!

Rob, do you supplement or outsource any of the "rest" of the IT stuff? That's pretty thin coverage unless you have lots of self-sufficient users or a very stable environment.

We have a 3 person IT department. One person does mainly supervision and
upper management (non Vantage) reporting needs and engineering change
approvals. One person does most of the hardware needs, telephones,
printers, security cameras and performs final approval on all CAD drawings

We have 40 Vantage users, 20 MES users and 20 people that only use other

We have 15 Vantage users and I'm the only IT staff. I do it all. (Phones, servers, pc repair, custom programming, report generation, vantage installation etc ) I only sub out printer repairs. I also now do the purchasing of all raw materials, the daily review of labor transactions, shipping clerk when needed, some quoting of work, maintain an ebay store, import goods from India, my list goes on and on.

So basically I'm saying that people working with multiple IT people should consider themselves lucky.

Actually from the responses so far it seems like the staffing levels are fairly consistent with some outliers. But typically you have one person supporting around 100 employees. As you add multiple sites into the mix, you might expect some additional overhead.

Were a single site company with 150+ employees, 30 user liscenses, 15 MES liscenses. We have one full time IT, I spend ½ to ¾ of my time with Vantage related process improvement (I get all the customizations, BPM's, BAM's, Service Connect, etc and all of the system integrations).

I am a one person having all the responsibilities, supporting all users, remote users, databases, backup, customizations, programming, networking, and crystal reporting. Right now we have two locations about 150 employees. All the workstations are WinXp with Vantage 8.03.305L

Thank you

Jeff

Is the BAQ marked as shared?

What does the detail show in the System Monitor?

Our full time IT gets a little thin, we have made use of WIPFLI as a backup IT source..

Rob, do you supplement or outsource any of the "rest" of the IT stuff? That's pretty thin coverage unless you have lots of self-sufficient users or a very stable environment.
