BAM email alerts

This is probably an issue with your mail server. Most mail servers are set up not to allow relaying of unauthenticated emails. Since Vantage has to use an anonymous login, it won't let you send email outside your company. The good news is that almost all email servers have a way that you can specify just your Vantage server to be allowed to relay email. You don't want to open this up to everyone since this will invite spammers to use your email server. I have an Exchange 2007 server that I set up to allow Vantage to relay and I have BAMS that send emails to customers. It requires a few steps to set up, but it works great.

Has anyone been able to send an 'email alert' based on a 'BAM' to an address outside of your company domain?

We would like to send email alerts to select Customers upon shipment. We have several BAM alerts that work fine, custom programmed in Progress, sending emails to folks in our company. I've tried in the past to add my personal email address and nothing happened, the alert did not get sent to my address.

Thanks,
Bill J.

Last night I got around 6300 email alerts and it's been doing this since last Thursday. I think there may be a lob of email alerts that got stored for the past several months and it's playing "catch-up". Does anyone know the email alert system well enough to help me with this problem?

I had the same situation a year ago. I was told that I can do nothing but wait till it stops, and it did.

Assuming you don't want to review each of those emails now, rather than try to change something in Epicor, why don't you just set up a rule in your email program to redirect these emails to a separate folder if you want to keep them or delete them if you don't want to keep them. An email rule might take 5 minutes, but I have a feeling if you try something in Epicor it will take two to ten times that. I suppose if you never want those emails in the future, you should change Epicor, but there must have been a reason you wanted to get them at some time in the past.

There's actually a table that you can clear. I think it's BAMQueue or something like that. It means going into the database with ODBC or SQL via JDBC though...

Its a queue of emails. What Mark says is right you need to epon the server and open mfgwrk803 folder. You will see a list of logs. Rename the epicor-smtp.log and the GlobalAlertsEmail.log ( you can add a _old to the name)

It will automatically create a new log for you.

Let me know if this works,

Yeah I set up a separate folder for all the email alerts to dump into in my outlook so it wasn't as annoying. I was looking at those two files yesterday - epicor-smtp.log and GlobalAlertsEmail.log and believe I saw them growing, just wasn't sure how they functioned together. I will give those two files a different name and also check that BAMQueue table.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.
