I think that the # of users in Vantage during the day, including the BI size can affect the backup file size. On a particularly heavy-use day (or whatever makes the BI increase), you may find jumps in backup file size.
We find that our mid-day backup is sometimes larger than our evening backup.

Jim,
We had the same thing happen for about three weeks. Just like you, I
monitor the size of the database and was very concerned that it wasn't
changing. And, just like you, I got to the point where I couldn't take it
any more and had to restore the database to a new locations just to ease my
mind. Everything seemed fine.
I have no idea why the file size wasn't changing. Our database backup was
at (roughly) 650 MB when it stopped growing. We are now back on track with
the file size increasing regularly in small increments.

Subject: [Vantage] Backup Mystery
I have a concern for my Vantage Backup process.
I'm running Vantage 4.00.904 and using the standard
vantage backvan.bat process to backup my vantage.db on
a nightly basis.
For the past 8 nights, the size of my backup has
remained the same. For the previous 3 year, It
increased 1.5 to 2meg each day. No increase for the
past week+.
Checked the logs and everything is successful.
Backup, verify both a ok. I've been monitoring the
number of blocks it's backing up and it remains
consistent. No increase.
Is there a size limit to this backup?? What can I
check to assure that I'm getting complete backup?
And I know, based on past experience, I'm going to
need to do a restore any day now because I've lost
confidence in the backup process. I'm tired of
tossing and turning all night.
Any suggestions on what could be causing this.
