AutoPrint Packing Slip in v9.05.607B

Auto-print is not an easy thing to get working, IMO. I have accomplished some simple receiving labels recently, committed to memory now, you have to have all the stars in the universe aligned for it to work properly. I posted a file, in the general files, not in any subfolder titled "Epicor 9 & BarTender.docx". It gives good basic understanding of how it should work on 9.04.507A, although even those instructions can be tweaked and fine tuned. testing and validating conditions is important, and making sure all the paths are correct. Go ahead and send over the screen shots if you want me to take a stab... I might be of no assistance but couldn't hurt.

Hey group.... Need some help with AutoPrint. (Vantage 8.03.408B SQL)

It's been a while, but I recall it was fairly straight forward. Maybe
not.

This is what I've done so far and it's not working:

Set up the Printer in Printer Maint. Make a new Report Data Definition,
set it to auto print (create the condition).... create the BAM, point
the bam to the RDD.......

I'm not getting anything printing (or auto-previewing). Just trying to
simply auto-print a packslip once it's shipped using ReadyToInvoice.

I've confirmed the BAM is firing because I also set it to do a ChgLog
entry and it's logging changes on the exact same condition... So the
BAM is firing. The XML is generating and sitting in the \reports folder
for the specific user. That tells me the RDD is working.

What's NOT working is either the Auto-Preview or the AutoPrint.
Nothing's printing out or previewing.

We've set up the printer as a "local" printer on the Vantage server as
an IP Port. I've confirmed that it works.

But even if the Auto-Preview isn't working, it tells me something is
breaking before it attempts to print or preview.

Crystal Runtime issue? Any ideas? Tried it on multiple workstations
and the server with the same results.

One other odd observation, in System Monitor, the task is Active and
then moves into History and says complete. But it DOES NOT show up on
the Reports tab of SysMon like it should be.

The Packslip prints/previews fine manually.

Thank you in advance.

Are you seeing any errors in the System Monitor on the History tab? You should see the print job on the Reports tab - try manually re-printing from there - maybe it will give you a clue

Vic,

Youre not a victim of your lack of knowledge..youre a victim of an
undocumented feature.. When we were on 407a we experienced the same
thing.. and got assigned a nice little SCR# for it, I understand youre

Hi Vic,

We have had this issue a few time before.

We were getting it where we could print and preview manually and preview from
the system monitor. It would print to any printer.

When we tried to auto print, nothing came out the printer.

In the end after exhausting every possibility, we changed the printer and it
worked straight away.

We were using a Brother which worked (but the printer broke) - We then swapped
to a Ricoh which didnt work with auto-print (tried a few Ricohs), we then
switched back to a new Brother which worked straight away.

Even tried changing the page setups in Crystal for the new printer but nothing
happened.

This sounds like exactly the issue we had.

The only other time we have had something similar was when we were on a previous
version (9.04.503b) and we actually got errors in the System Monitor.

I would try different printers.

Possibly something to do with PCL-6 or something. Dont really know much about
PCL-6 etc, but I think the Brother's are 5 (something - I think).

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks,

CHRIS

We are experiencing very similar problems, a year later, in 9.05.607B. We cannot get the standard pack slip to print, let alone a customized one which we ultimately need (with several variants by Customer). I have yet to see it even appear in the system monitor.

We have done all the steps we can think of (BAM -> RDD -> Report Style -> New "Printer" setup) and can neither auto-print nor preview a packing slip.

The process appears to be fraught with "gotchas" and "Catch-22's" on which I am too frazzled to elaborate. Well I'll try:

- In RDD you cannot customize the base [x] system report definition. OK I can understand that.

- We duplicated it but in BAM you cannot select the reportID of the customized report saved in RDD.

[This makes me think that it is ONLY possible to auto-print predefined system reports (as defined by Epicor) using BAM. But we can't even get that much to work.]

- Rules seem redundant between BAM and RDD. Do we really even NEED BAM?

- BAM IS firing because we are receiving a [x] Email alert, but there is no evidence whatsoever of the report running. No error message either.

It is all very frustrating.

I have screen shots of all the relevant screens which I'm happy to send if someone who has accomplished auto-print would be willing to review.

Thanks!
Chris

In version 8.03.409c,

- We duplicated it but in BAM you cannot select the reportID of the customized report saved in RDD.
We have the report ID listed as the box shown as "Duplicate of" in the RDD and the Data Definition ID is the "Code" of the RDD. We are using a customized RDD.

- Rules seem redundant between BAM and RDD. Do we really even NEED BAM?
We have most of our rules in BAM, just a couple (they are duplicates) in RDD

I have screen shots of all the relevant screens which I'm happy to send if someone who has accomplished auto-print would be willing to review.
We only have one report autoprinted and it outputs plain text (not XML for Crystal), but I can compare with your screens if you want to send them...
