Automation Studio IDEA? Current Metal Prices

Hmm. just ran into a question… came up with an answer. How many of you would/could use a feature in Kinetic that automatically retrieves the CURRENT METAL cost and updates a table inside Kinetic for use to determine current cost of commodity based products (such as Copper/gold/silver prices).

Yes, could absolutely use this.

Where would you put the data? Into Specific Part Numbers? A UD Table? UserCode table?

I was going to say into specific parts but that might be too restrictive. A UD table might give more flexibility especially if you want to track it over time (i.e. store date pulled w/price).

Yup… i was thinking a UDxx table… Key1 = the Metal, Key2 = the Date (yyyymmdd), Number01 = Value

Still need some way to associate the data to specific parts.

Years ago… I had someone with the same request. What we did was:

  1. created a Part Number for each commodity
  2. Created a BOM for each part and put that commodity part number as a “component”.
  3. then used that to do cost rolls…

For example, we Purchased WIRE… a 5 pound spool of wire is made from 5 pounds of copper. We change the price of copper, and the cost of the spool of wire changed. We had to add another addon to account for any special charges (small wire is more expensive).
But by doing this, we only had to update the price for the copper 1 time… then roll it up.
