Automate a stored export routine

you can cut and past the 4GL query from the export module. Combine that
with Troy's examples, you should be ready to go...

Subject: [Vantage] automate a stored export routine.

I have been having trouble with ODBC, so I created an export using
the export utility. How can I automate it? Can I create a .p file
or something and then run it with a windows scheduler or something.
I have never worked with vantage or progress and need a little help
getting started. If a .p file can run stored exports please insert
the code. I am also interested in any reading material since the
help files seem to be lacking.

Thank You,

Peter

If you're still back on Vantage 3.0, then yes, you can do exactly
that. Cool trick I found - change NT permissions on \VntgWork and run an
export. It creates a .P file you can copy out and even modify for
one-click or automated exports.

At 4.0, that "feature" quit working. There's a sample of the 3.0 generated
code I uploaded to the Yahoo files section. If you know Progress, you can
use it as boiler plate to create your own. The other Vantage subroutines
it calls still worked at 4.0, never tested it above that, though.

A couple list members have written export routines; think a few of those
are also available at Yahoo.

Peter,
I just uploaded a zip package with instructions called "exporta.zip". See if that gets you on the road.
