Anyone using Enterprise Search?

Hi,
I just turned Epicor Search on last week.  We have a few months of support calls in the system now and it is working quite well.  The only thing is we would like get the search box in the tool bar to be larger, but I am not sure how to go about it.  If anyone can let me know that would be appreciated.

Cheers

Hi All,

We purchased Enterprise Search way back but never implemented it.

We are looking for a better, easier way to find data in Epicor.

Is anyone other there using Enterprise Search? If yes, how is it?

I just want to make sure it worth the effort.

We rolled out the enterprise search about 4 weeks ago.  Most people like it.  I now they use it to find contacts (34k and counting) and serial numbers.

Added a couple of custom BAQs to the standard search criteria for some of our custom data.

I did have to make sure the search db was backed up nightly to keep the transaction log from growing to large.

We started using Enterprise Search about 5 months ago when we first implemented Epicor.  Our users find it pretty useful.  For example, they can type in a Part Number and quickly see all the Jobs for that Part Number.  Our Sales Department also likes it.  In Customer Entry we had added a UD field where they could enter the customer's Cell Phone #.  We added that UD field to the Enterprise Search index.  Now, when a customer calls and gives the salesperson their phone # (could be cell phone or a land line) they can type it in Enterprise Search and it brings up that customer whether that phone # is in the Phone or Cell Phone field.

It isn't too hard to implement.  It gets a little more tricky to update with service packs when you have customized the search indexes.

In regards to Tom's comment about the transaction log, we also found the transaction log for the Enterprise Search database (SearchIndex900) to be getting very large.  What we did is just change the database Recovery Model to Simple.  Every time that it runs a reindex it basically rebuilds the whole index database anyway, so we saw no need to have it keep a transaction log.

We use it, works well, not too much overhead, easy to setup. Make sure you set DB recovery to simple to keep it from growing too large.

Thanks Rob and everyone else for responding.

It sounds like it might do what I'm looking for and probably worth the
effort.
