Anyone running Vantage on other than Progress DB?

Gil,

Condolences !

On the other hand, your Epicor sales rep should visit Shirley for a few
sessions to learn what happens to you when you misrepresent / falsify /
embellish ....

Todd,
I was told that a consultant retained at that time to evaluate our IT
requirements strongly recommended an SQL database platform because it
provides greater flexibility to bolt-on other applications. And Epicor
stated in their proposal, and assured the project team prior to purchase,
that Vantage can run on SQL. So the decision was made by a relatively naive
project team to buy Vantage flavored with SQL.

Two years on, we don't have any bolt-on applications in mind, nor do I see
any need for them in the short to mid-term. Any data requirements out of
Vantage can be handled one way or another thru an ODBC connection or an
export to Excel or Access. But we do have the pleasure of Epicor telling us
that this bug (or "unwanted feature") or that non-working functionality is
an SQL specific problem.

You may be interested to know that the Epicor sales rep claimed that Vantage
is developed and tested on an SQL platform first, then converted to run on a
Progress database later. He made this claim when we started complaining
about all of the problems we were experiencing that were SQL related. This
claim was debunked by somebody on this email list sometime ago.

To be fair, I am not a computer programmer or sys ad and couldn't care less
re the pros and cons of an SQL, Progress, Oracle or other database. I use
Vantage as a tool to get a job done. And the tool is most annoying at times.

Another vented spleen for the Vantage SQL bashing brigade. HTH.

Gil,

Just out of curiosity.

What prompted you folks to use MS-SQL server for your DB to begin with?

What did your EPICOR / Vantage sales rep say about it during the pre-sale
cycle?

Thanks,
