Bob,
We have developed an incentive system using MS Access to pay our operators
and setup employees a bonus based on their labor captured in Vantage. We
use the ODBC driver to query the Progress database. We also use a VB form
in the job at the operation level to set our standards of time and cost.
The issue of calculating efficiency when an employee is clocked onto more
than one job is a difficult one. We break down the time periods by payroll
date and look to see what jobs 'overlap' one another for an operator. Our
system adjusts the incentive bases on how many jobs are being run. The more
jobs being run the lower the efficiency needed to make the incentive and the
incentive also increases with each additional job being run. In all it took
several weeks to program and even longer to perfect. It is possible to do
but not a small task to be taken lightly.
Hop ethios helps

We are in the process of trying to implement a pay system based on various
elements. One of the elements is the productivity associated with the
position of Operators and Set up Staff. We plan on measuring performance
through Vantage for specific jobs that have been run before. i.e., Jobs that
have proven times. I am going to try and get a custom report built to
produce the employee efficiency report, but have added filters to only
include those Jobs that have been tagged as "measurable" My question to the
group is, are any of you using Vantage as a tool to measure the employee
efficiency over a period of 2 or 3 months. If so,(1) how do you deal with
those employees who may be running more than one work centre at the same
time? (2), how do you deal with jobs that you have not run before whereby
the estimated set up and production times may not be realistic?
I doubt that this is a unique question, but would love to hear from any of
you with your thoughts on this.
