Anyone else able to type whatever sales order number they want when creating new order in Kinetic Order entry?

just jumped from order # 40000 to 80000 yesterday in a blink of an eye.

Apparently when you create a new sales order you can type whatever number you want into the ordernum field and press save and it will indeed save that order as a new order.

You can only type in a number that is lower than the current sequence, sounds like somebody bumped up the sequence? I just tested this in the latest kinetic version and it works the same as it always has.

Not here (Kinetic SaaS). I get an error that the Order num must either be less than 60000 (this is where we started numbering in Epicor) or enter zero to allow the system to assign the number.

Did someone change your default Sales Order Numbering in Company Config?

No, the default has been 0.

Alright, well not sure what’s going on cause I literally have users able to type in whatever order number they want right now. Which is how this all happened.

The order number current sequence is 0 in company config.

Enter 0 and see what happens in your company config.

Interesting… Field Help below:

Starting Order
Specifies the number automatically assigned to the first sales order you enter in the Epicor application. If you do not enter a number, sales orders begin with 1.

Tip: You have the choice of the Epicor application generating order numbers for you or assigning your own numbers. System generated numbers are assigned by adding 1 to the highest number already on file. To enter your own numbers, enter a high number such as 99999 as the Starting Order, then enter the number you want in Sales Order Entry. If you enter your own numbers, they must be smaller than the number stored here.

Perhaps “0” is like an infinite value? Kind of like putting a zero on a user account password expiration means it will never expire. Maybe the zero means any number is acceptable?

I can confirm the behavior, at least.

In my test environment… I set the value to ZERO. I was then able to enter a sales order at whatever value I wanted:

David that’s what I am saying, all field help and @hkeric.wci 's CHM is stating that if you leave it at 0 in company config it would add 1 to the highest number already on file.

It neglects to say that if you put in your own number it disregards any logic as long as it’s not an existing number haha

Scary thing is, I set my number back to 60000 and instead of it giving me the next available number after 60000… my next sales order saved at 10,000,000 (one value up from my last order of 9,999,999).

I then deleted orders 9,999,999 & 10,000,000 and then created a new order and it still gave me 10,000,001 as my next order.

So, it stored that highest value somewhere and that’s my new counter!!

David and I have the opposite. In my live environment it did exactly what you are saying, it updated the sequence and my next order was now the larger number.

But in my test environment I went in and tried this bug and it didn’t update the sequence to 9999999, it kept the old one haha. I’m so confused.
