Any solutions to get access to vanatage from Home

Todd,
There are ways of getting through the firewall from the outside with VNC if you know the Port numbers, etc. Mike Gilchrist is doing it a different way completely.

We chose to keep the firewall intact. The trick is in obtaining a connection from the outside if you have a firewall. We send an email to an email account on the PC host, which then activates (viaOutlook 2000 rules) a batch file to activate the connection. We use a Domain Name Hosting service to map to a static IP address so that VNC knows where to connect each time. I can give you further details if you need.

Troy, could you describe your setup a bit. I am exploring an option with
our ISP where they have over 800 dial-in POPs around the country and they
then create a 128K private channel to our router over our T1 (on which we
use 512K for Internet service). Not using Internet for transport, totally
private circuits. For all this they want to charge $255 a month and speed
is, in reality, limited to dial-up (48.8K at best). How does TridiaVNC
handle coming in thru a firewall? I would love to connect from at home on
cable modem and tunnel into work over the T1 link if it is secure. And for
our traveling people a cheap dial ISP service (AT&T, AOL, etc...) for
Internet connection (although slow) might suffice. A lot cheaper than
$255/mo anyway.
Thanks,
-Todd C.

Sharma,
We use TridiaVNC over the internet, similar to PCAnywhere. Performance
is so-so on my home 26.6 connection, but bearable.

HI

We are using PC Anywhere to access vantage from home but it is not
working perfectly. It hangs very often and is also very slow.

Does anyone have any other better solution for Virtual connection.
Which is more re;iable and faster.

In PcAnywhere .... Menu Bar ... Tools ... Optimization wizard ...

Once setup properly ... my speed from home via PcAnywhere to my office PC
via dial up is 95% of what I have at my office machine.

The big item is to reduce your color settings on your display adapter to as
low as you can ... 16 colors ...

We aren't setup yet but we are going to set up a server to handle data
collection in the shop, email, edi, internet connection, firewall, and
remote stations using terminal server and a cable access.
