FYI, in case you ever find yourself in a similar situation...

I found the perfect solution... Rather than diving manually into a Progress
database and do a search and replace routine of some sorts, I went the old
fashioned way of recording a macro.... I printed all the part numbers that
had to have their lead time changed from 0 to 9 days to an Excel sheet.
While the part master is open in the background, I copy the contents of the
first cell into the part number field, go to the Inv/Pur screen, update the
lead time field, switch back to the excel sheet and delete the entire first
row. This causes all the part numbers to shift and the next number is ready
to be copied. "Goto 10", and the entire sequence repeats itself over again
ad infinitum. I am using Macro Express, which allows you easy control of
the speed. I found that Vantage hicks up every now and then when you work
it at 10 times the speed of a human, I tweaked the speed back to 8 times the
speed, and it seems to work fine.

All,

Is there a way to do a global replace of the lead time field only for
purchased parts that have a lead time of 0 days? The prospect of doing it
manually does not seem too inviting for me on a 35K+ parts database....

TIA,

Paul
I like macro express too. The only thing I found is that at high speed you
get a little bit of screen creep, and it misses. I usually run things in
100 record batchs. Whats fun is when users come in they think I'm just
THINKING about it and it works. Adds to the mystique. :)

D'oh! same thing happened to me yesterday! Marketing walked into my cubicle
and saw me staring at the screen while windows were popping up and under,
text appeared out of nowhere in the fields, etc. When he asked me how I was
doing that, I told him I was testing a new type flat panel screen
(Coincidentally, I just got myself a nice Sony), that senses the position of
the eye's pupils on the screen and directs the mouse and keyboard input
accordingly. As of this morning he was still believing it, and was
overheard pitching the idea to engineering for use on our product's touch
screen panels. Engineering and I have collectively decided to hold off on
informing marketing of the joke.

I used the same method to enter all of our data when we converted from an
AS400 to Vantage. One thought I would share is if you use Winbatch.
www.winbatch.com you can set it up to wait till a screen is open. They
have a command that goes something like waitwinexist("Purchase Order
Entry"). This really helps with the timing issue.
