The best performance benchmarks that Epicor has produced for Vantage 8
were achieved on a HP server with dual-core AMD processors.

We are looking into upgrading our systems to meet the needs of Vantage version 8. Does anybody have any comments on using AMD processors instead of Intel? I'm not to familiar with the AMD processors and how they match up to their Intel counterpart.

Thanks,
Jasper

My entire network is AMD processors, including the servers (Opteron dual
core) 64 bit. Can run either 32 or 64 bit. They all run strong with no
issues. AMD beats intel in both performance and cost. Hands down.

You try to get in touch with Ben Nixon from Epicor, he is a huge
proponent of AMD processors.

According to Progress (if that's the backend DB you are running),
benchmark performance testing results have AMD out performing Intel in 5
of 6 critical catagories, although the difference is not overly
significant. (The results are somewhere on their website, I'll try to
find the link when I have some free time.)

Now enter the application (Vantage), and according to Ben , Vantage has
been consistently performing much better on AMD based servers than their
comparable Intel counterparts. I haven't seen any documentation to
support this but since he is their top DB performance guru, I'll take
his word for it.

Also AMD based systems run 20 to 40% cheaper than Intel boxes. If you
are budgeted for Intel servers, the savings could be enough to add in a
dozen or more client systems.

Shirly, for the desktop, what do you think about the AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual-Core 3600+ ?

It's one of the options I have to purchase.

Thanks,
Jasper

I've always had good luck with the 32 bit version of Athlons. While I
haven't specifically looked at your chip I have great confidence in the
Athlon line.

Why not get a AMD and a Dell from your vendor and bench-mark them?
Send the looser back.
just a thought.
