Access Is Denied on Epicor 9.05 Icon

Hi,

This is our test terminal server, I was the only person logged in.

I had two sessions open side by side under different usernames and if I
open the client in one the other could not start the client.

This was also the case when logged in as administrator.

I have applied the patched mfgsys.exe file provided by Epicor and its
now working fine so there does appear to be a known issue.

Regards

Chris

Is there actually an update that needs to be run? Have you tried running
it
while logged in as an administrator? Have you checked the local
permissions
on the TS to make sure that the users have the permission to run a
program
as well update the folder that the client is installed to?

Try logging everyone off through the TS Manager, and then run just 1
person
and see how that affects it.

I suspect that one user was logged in, you did an update, and now
because
that user is still logged in it can't run the update since it can't gain
exclusive rights to the process.

Hi,

The TS is on Server 2003.

I've checked the share permissions. This is only affecting the terminal
server sessions and not those who have the client installed locally.

I have tried having two TS sessions open side by side. If the client is
running in one session then the other session will produce the
permission
denied error when attempting to start the client. Close the client in
the
first session and the second session can start the client.

I've raised this with Epicor today and have just received a patch by
email.
Will apply it later tonight to see if it resolves the issue.

Version is 9.05.602a

Thanks
Chris

That error is almost certainly a failure to access one of the two server
shares. Double check your permissions, give 'Everyone' read access to
both
shares. Log the users out/in.

Can all users see the server shares correctly; ping the server, browse
the
shares with explorer, etc?

Do you have any scripts or anything that log into the Epicor server
automatically with cached credentials? Windows generally won't let you
access the same resource with two sets of credentials.

What version of windows is on the term serv?

Just got Epicor 9.05 installed and when I tried clicking on the users desktop icon for the training database, I got Access is Denied. I then tried going through the start menu, same thing. Funny thing is we have terminal services and 1 out of the 3 worked fine. I did the same install process on all of them. I checked permissions on the shortcut. Added Everyone/Full Control on the install folder. Anyone have any ideas?
Check permissions on the Epicor905 and EpicorData shares on the server.

I wonder if the 'Access is Denied' error is being generated by the
client trying to access the vantage server's \\servername\epicor$ share?

I believe I accidentally figured out my stupidity.

I installed the client and made sure the users had desktop icons, however I
never logged in with an admin account, therefore the client never ran
through the autoupdate process.

After half an hour of messing around with permissions, I thought maybe I
should try logging in with my user and it works.

That error is always the auto-updater not being able to access the share
location.

Usually I make cute the Epicor905 or Vantage803 folder has at least READ
rights granted to everyone in the domain. So either Domain Users or Everyone
and them Give READ/WRITE rights to the Domain Admins.

We've just started having the same problem today. I've checked the
shares but no luck.

We have one TS user that is able to connect. All others including domain
admin get the permission denied error.

Not sure what the problem is.

Hi,

The TS is on Server 2003.

I've checked the share permissions. This is only affecting the terminal server sessions and not those who have the client installed locally.

I have tried having two TS sessions open side by side. If the client is running in one session then the other session will produce the permission denied error when attempting to start the client. Close the client in the first session and the second session can start the client.

I've raised this with Epicor today and have just received a patch by email. Will apply it later tonight to see if it resolves the issue.

Version is 9.05.602a

Thanks
Chris

That error is almost certainly a failure to access one of the two server
shares. Double check your permissions, give 'Everyone' read access to both
shares. Log the users out/in.

Is there actually an update that needs to be run? Have you tried running it
while logged in as an administrator? Have you checked the local permissions
on the TS to make sure that the users have the permission to run a program
as well update the folder that the client is installed to?

Try logging everyone off through the TS Manager, and then run just 1 person
and see how that affects it.

I suspect that one user was logged in, you did an update, and now because
that user is still logged in it can't run the update since it can't gain
exclusive rights to the process.

Hi,

The TS is on Server 2003.

I've checked the share permissions. This is only affecting the terminal
server sessions and not those who have the client installed locally.

I have tried having two TS sessions open side by side. If the client is
running in one session then the other session will produce the permission
denied error when attempting to start the client. Close the client in the
first session and the second session can start the client.

This is a known problem to epicor. My understanding is that its fixed in 9.05.603.

The only fix for it is to get a one off fix from epicor specific to your version. They send you the correct/fixed version of MfgSys.exe
