In system management, utilities, custom field map you can set the
PartMtl.ShortChar01 to feed from the ECOMtl.ShortChar01 feild and
visa versa. This way when you set the flag on the engineering
workbench it writes to the PartMtl file. When you check out the part
again and vantage loads up the ECOMtl file, it knows to pull the
shortchar01 field from PartMtl.ShortChar01 .

I've seen of the table structure it looks like it makes a copy of
your method when you check out a part and all the changes are made
to the copy. When you check a part back in, the Engineering
Workbench copy of the method is then copied back to the part master
tables. So I'm guessing the PartMtl.ShortChar01 is not being copied
back and forth to the ECOMtl.ShortChar01. It may be possible to
replicate the data in this field through a customization or BPM.

For now I have basically added a textbox under the "materials" tab
and assigned the textbox to the UD field "ECOMtl.ShortChar01 ."Â I
save the record, I approve and check back in the part, I then
checkout the part again, and the UD field that I have entered data
into is now blank.. Any thoughts on why this is happening? Is there
some functionality of the Engineering Workbench I am not aware of?
This has got me quite confused.

Hello all,

I created a customization to the Engineering Workbench screen. For now I have basically added a textbox under the "materials" tab and assigned the textbox to the UD field "ECOMtl.ShortChar01." I save the record, I approve and check back in the part, I then checkout the part again, and the UD field that I have entered data into is now blank.. Any thoughts on why this is happening? Is there some functionality of the Engineering Workbench I am not aware of? This has got me quite confused.

Thanks,

I've never customized the Engineering Workbench, but from what I've seen of the table structure it looks like it makes a copy of your method when you check out a part and all the changes are made to the copy. When you check a part back in, the Engineering Workbench copy of the method is then copied back to the part master tables. So I'm guessing the PartMtl.ShortChar01 is not being copied back and forth to the ECOMtl.ShortChar01. It may be possible to replicate the data in this field through a customization or BPM.
