6.1 Upgrade

Thanks Todd,

My plan for #1 is to continue using mfgwk60 as my working folder and
modify the commands in the Vantage.mfg file to point there instead of
the mfgwk61 location.

#2 I had noticed a difference in the DB settings and made the print
screen copies. Haven't gotten around to making the changes yet, but
thanks for the advice.

#3 On the client I planned to alter the existing shortcut, like you
suggested a while back, thanks for that idea. A batch file would be
a neat idea, especially if what we need to do was a little more time
consuming, but I think it is simple enough I'm not going to worry
about it.

I'm more concerned about changes that the users might see, or
problems (bugs) that we might run into that I don't know about.

Testing might not reveal this unless you have a couple dozen people
testing all at once. Copy your DB settings from 6.0 (screen prints
work well) and check them in the new 6.1 DB.

the first one (the Progress part can be skipped) with the "save"
option then on each other client PC just changed the desktop shortcut
to point to the mfgsys61 folder (and new working folder too). If I
had been smarter I might also have copied the shortcut file to a
floppy along with a batch procedure (maybe called vGo.bat) to copy
the new shortcut to the desktop. Just insert floppy, command:
A:\vGo , then on to next PC. Would have saved a lot of typing to
change 60 to 61 in all those shortcuts.

Over Thanksgiving weekend I did a test install of 6.1 and the upgrade
went well. I plan on doing the live upgrade over New Years weekend.
I don't plan on doing much testing or letting users play with it
ahead of time due to everything I've heard about little or no changes
from 6.0 to the core modules. Does anybody know of anything
significant that has changed between 6.0 and 6.1 that I should look
into more closely prior to going live?

A couple things I can recall....
1. Users working folder gets changed to mfgsys61 location so all the Crystal reports using .dbf files need to be changed to point there too. Delete the old working folders too (see #3 below as an added tack in the batch file).

2. The installation sets all the DB parameters (like -n) too low. Testing might not reveal this unless you have a couple dozen people testing all at once. Copy your DB settings from 6.0 (screen prints work well) and check them in the new 6.1 DB.

3. I sped the client process up considerably by re-installing just the first one (the Progress part can be skipped) with the "save" option then on each other client PC just changed the desktop shortcut to point to the mfgsys61 folder (and new working folder too). If I had been smarter I might also have copied the shortcut file to a floppy along with a batch procedure (maybe called vGo.bat) to copy the new shortcut to the desktop. Just insert floppy, command: A:\vGo , then on to next PC. Would have saved a lot of typing to change 60 to 61 in all those shortcuts.

4. We use a custom splash screen so that had to be moved to the mfgsys61 area.

I can't recall any changes that user really even noticed at all.
