Is anyone dealing with repair work that is done to a serial numbered
item. EX: Customer A returns Part X (serial number 123) with a valid
RMA. If serial number 123 requires some repair work, we would like to
create a job, capture the repair costs and attach them to S/N 123. If
we issue S/N 123 as material to the job, the system thinks we are
duplicating the serial number when we try to receive the item. If we
delete the S/N before finishing the job, we can receive the S/N back
into stock, but we have lost the history on the part. We are
currently creating a new serial number, 123a, but it would be nice if
there was a cleaner way.
I am very interested in knowing what others are doing.
