6.1 Installation Help

Yeah, but on Standard it reserves 2 GB of ram for the OS - insane but true.

I jumped from 4.0 to 6.0 last August. The recommendation I give is make
sure you have tons of hard drisk space when you go to 6.x. My database was
2.7 GB when I upgraded. It is now 4.4 GB and growing at 100 MB a month.
Remember you have to make your backup to the same drive, therefore I'm
growing at a rate of 200 MB a month. No one cluded me in so I'll run out of
room in another year. The previous year my 4.0 database only grew 300 MB.
Just thought you would want to know when you are planning your server
purchase.

PS: Windows 2Kx Standard server will only allow access to 2 GB ram.
Enterprise will allow access to 4 GB if you are looking to stuff your
database into ram.

We are currently on 4.0.
I am trying to do just a base install of 6.1 on a Windows XP pc to see what
6.1 looks like.
I am not trying to move our current db to 6.1. For now I just want to see
6.1.

I have followed the installation instructions off Epicor's website (twice)
with the same results.

When I click on a 6.1 icon on a client install I get the error that it can't
find Vantage.MFG.

I can't find it either, locally or on the server installation.

What am I doing wrong and where should the *.MFG files be?

I do have the db's up and running, at least I I think I do according to
progress explorer.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Same thing happened to me. I change the permissions on my shared directory
to "full Control" and that solved the problem.

I don't even have the mfg files installed. I tried changing the share
permissions but it didn't help.
Do I need to have those permissions set and then reinstall?

Yes. If you don't have the proper permissions (on the server) when you
install the client, then the .mfg files are not created. It seems the .mfg
files are created during the client install process.

Jim,

Are you installing a single user Vantage (all progress and vantage in one
PC) or a one client and one server?

If all in one: you should have vantage.mfg in your c: or d: Epicor\mfgsys61
folder.

If you install a Client-Server environment, you will need to go to your
mapped drive (v:\mfgsys61\vantage.mfg)

PS: Not all the time Epicor's documentation is up to date or accurate. Yet,
it is part of the learning process and that is why I take a couple of months
(the least) to update from one version to another. I updated from 5.1 to 6.1
in December and kept me busy so far.....

Thanks for the tips on going to 6.1.
I'll be sure to keep those in mind when the time comes, but for now I'd just
like to get an install to work.
I've moved my 4.0 from a nt to w2k box and didn't have any real problems.
I've also installed a test 5.2 installation a couple years ago without any
real problem, but this has me stumped.

I tried changing the permissions and it's still the same, no mfg file
extension's to be seen anywhere.

Does anyone have their own installation instructions they would be willing
to share, I need a 'Vantage for Dummies'!
