6.1 Client Install

I might suggest uploading the files to our YahooGroups file area.
I recently completed a test migration/upgrade from 5.1 to 6.1 on my test server.
The Live upgrade starts tonight... anything that saves me time on the client side is greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance, Lee

Aaron,

Could you please send me those files as well. I am just getting ready to
install 6.1 on a test server and would like to see what you have done on the
client side.

Additionally, thanks for going out on that limb and saving us from your
heartache.

Going to put myself out on a limb here, but I am going to offer to those
that are on or going to 6.1 in the near future a little time saver.
The problem is this. Since we moved to 6.1 every client install resets
the .mfg files and .ini file to some defaults that we don't find ideal.
I just get them fixed and another client gets installed and my work is
destroyed.
This is what I have done. Under the UD directory I saved a copy of my
modified .mfg and mfgsys.ini files. I created a batch file to install
vantage that calls the setup file, then after that finishes, it copies
my .mfg files and mfgsys.ini file to the local system. Then it creates
a shortcut to them on the desktop. I have it also install the
appropriate ODBC settings on each client to keep them uniform. Each of
the local .mfg files look to the local .ini file. During the install I
choose to add no icons thereby not creating the start menu icons (no one
uses them here anyway, but I don't want to be called to the desk of
someone that did because the screen fonts look all funny).
If anyone would like more details, you can contact me off list for
additional pointers.
Good luck to all.

Going to put myself out on a limb here, but I am going to offer to
those
that are on or going to 6.1 in the near future a little time saver.
The problem is this. Since we moved to 6.1 every client install
resets
the .mfg files and .ini file to some defaults that we don't find
ideal.
Then it
creates
a shortcut to them on the desktop. I have it also install the
appropriate ODBC settings on each client to keep them uniform. Each
of
the local .mfg files look to the local .ini file. During the install
I
choose to add no icons thereby not creating the start menu icons (no
one
uses them here anyway, but I don't want to be called to the desk of
someone that did because the screen fonts look all funny).
If anyone would like more details, you can contact me off list for
additional pointers.
Good luck to all.

Greg,
Vantage rewrites the files (at least on our system) read only or not. I
used the read only trick on 5.0 and 6.0.

Aaron

PS other I will respond to off list, but I will say this. I have
changed the fonts in the .ini file and drop it on the local machine so
anyone that runs report builder opens to the last report and library
they ran vs. the last one anyone ran. I also have this set the .mfg
files to look at that .ini. I have my .mfg files customized for ODBC,
and also have a .reg file that enters the ODBC DSN for me. Last night I
also added the line to map the drive for me as well. My IT guys love it
now, no more misspelling in the ODBC set up, no more screwy fonts
getting everyone upset...

Manasa,
Attached you will find all the files involved. You will need to pick
them apart and replace my setup with yours, but this should work as a
good template for you.

PS, congratulations on the CrestView job. I interviewed as well and
decided to pull out in favor of Hittite's offer a couple of weeks before
the interviews were finished. I have to admit I am a bit envious of the
area, it sure is beautiful down there. Enjoy!

Could you please send me those files as well. I am just getting ready to
install 6.1 on a test server and would like to see what you have done on the
client side.

Additionally, thanks for going out on that limb and saving us from your
