I suggest you will put as much memory in the new workstations as possible.
For Vantage version 8.0 the official minimum requirement is 384MB but I
think the minimum is 512MB. Especially with .Net software (like Vantage 8.0
clients) you will need a lot of memory, processor speed is less important.
If you do have much memory then the second best option is to have a fast
harddrive.

Thanks.
The good news is I got the OK to replace 3 machines. It's a start.

You've pretty much understand your situation.
128mb is not enough memory in 2004.
By examining your total memory used - physical and virtual then you have the
minimum new physical memory requirements. Hopefully, your older pc's can be
upgraded to the new value - some could only address 384mb of ram - most
notably a great many HP's and CPQ's.
As a consolation, memory is really really cheap.

I am finding that version 6.1 seems to be a memory pig. All our systems
down in engineering were locking up and blue screening and it appears to
be
because 6.1 and AutoCAD2000 couldn't play nicely together. On my system I
have noted that it seem to be memory hungry, but no fatal. In my best
estimation, they both want physical memory and don't want virtual memory.
In some regards it is our fault because were are running older pc's with
Pentium II's and III's with 500 MHz clocks and 128 ram. Increasing ram to
256 seems to help but only a little.
Has anyone else seem this, and better yet any suggestions to boost
performance without the obvious - buy new pc's?
