Just a few notes and observations from our upgrade this weekend that might be useful to others going this route.

1. Updating the clients by changing the existing shortcut works (rather than re-running client install) really well EXCEPT for one gotcha - somewhere there was a name change for the local working folder and it got an "r" added. The client install calls it mfgwrk61 but in 6.0 it was mfgwk60 so changing the 60 to 61 can leave people with different names. Easily fixed but something to be aware of in advance.

2. The new DB is missing all my optimizations. Duh! Should have thought about that. Main problem is -n parameter issue for number of users is less than our licensed number. I should have matched all the DB settings from mfgsys60 to mfgsys61. Something not mentioned in the install guide. Now I ahve to set them and shutdown/restart DB at lunchtime today.

3. The new fonts are horrible. Lots of complaints. I should have prepared people for the shock.

4. Office Data Collection in the list of who is clocked in.....nothing lines up in columns. Very hard to read. Looks to be font related. Is this a known bug?

5. Julie Lehmann at Mercury Minnesota had sent me some very handy tips and a couple bear posting:
A) The Progress Patch to 91D08 can be installed well in advance and works with 6.0.
B) 6.1 can be installed on server in advance as well (a good point at which to set DB settings too)
C) Then just procopy the DB, repoint the users to 61 and 1st time log-in fire up the change schema and conversions
This made the actual upgrade process on Saturday go a lot faster and more of the potential issues could be enountered while support was available. Thanks Julie!

Otherwise (so far) it was a about as smooth an upgrade as could be expected.

Todd,
Check the archives, We had this font issue, and I went to great lengths
to fix it as well as the issue that every time I installed a client, the
font settings were reset on the server.
Basically, I created a batch file to run the install. It maps the drive
if it is not, copies my special settings from a subdirectory under the
UD directory to the local drive. Creates desktop shortcuts to point to
the modified files (also let's each user open RB to the last report they
opened using this trick). It also uses a .reg file to setup ODBC in the
registry of computer. Total install time for clients that do not need a
new copy of the progress client is under a minute.

If you would like details, let me know.

PS. The font fix also fixes Office Data Collection. "Epicor have
misplaced their thinking caps when the switched the fonts."

A question I am trying to clear up before messing with the fonts is if this change has anything to do with preparing for Vantage 8.0 or not. I was suspecting it might be related to future "look & feel" issues which they were trying to smooth the way towards. Or, if this was someone at Epicor's idea for beter readability.

Thanks for a heads up on the client install undoing the fonts if I change them. I'll search the archives for this issue.
