5.2 Question SCRAPPED PARTS

Or better yet wear your loudest bowling shirt to perspectives next week and
raise your hand a lot during class room sessions.

You won't get an Epicor response via the Yahoo list. Someone will need to
request an enhancement, then other's would add their name to the
enhancement. Enhancement requests with the most names added often get the
highest priority. But you need to go throught the official channels,
starting with calling Epicor Support.

Exactly.

There are a number of workarounds that can be implemented to address the
shortcomings...but the point of the system is to provide this
automatically...with the flexibility to tailor to individual applications.

There seems to have been enough response to this issue to warrant a
Vantage

In our environment, if we need to replace scrapped parts we would
generate a new job not add to the existing job. Therefore I would like
to see Vantage reflect the scrapped parts in the next operation
quantity. We do it manually now. I set up a user field for the
original run qty and reduce the job run qty to where it is after scrap.
This eliminates numerous shop warnings for under qty and reflects what
is truly available in time phase. And by recording the original run qty
in the user field I can still track yield percentages. The problem
with this method is it is time consuming. It would be nice if the
computer could do it automatically.

That's true. But we're far more of a make to order environment. We
don't
expect the system to decide whether we need to make more. But we would
like it to present the information for that decision to our job
management
people onb a real time basis.

James,

I think this behaviour applies to earlier versions as well. We encountered it when testing in 5.1.

Easy answer is because Vantage has no way of knowing if you want to replace the scrapped item or not within the Job Order itself. If your original order is for 100 and along the way you scrapped 5 on operation 30 and another 5 on operation 40, the system cannot decide for you that now you want only 90. Remember, you have the facility to report additional material and labor to the Job order to get the original quantity of 100.

In addition, what happens if on operation 10 you cut 110 parts? Should the system now change the Job Qty to 110? If you scrapped the same qty as above (5 + 5) then you'll end up with a net 100, same as your original order. Do you expect the system to change the Job Order Qty 3 times to reflect all these?

You may be looking for the current net quantity yield at the end of the job. If you scrapped 10 and do not replace it along the way, then the net yield will be 90. Vantage does not have functionality to calculate this automatically out of the box. At least, I haven't seen a related field on the Job Order screen. Even if it does have the functionality, I very much doubt it that it will actually change the original Job Order Qty.

The system does not know that you need more parts to replace scrapped pieces until the Job is finished and closed off, and MRP is run. If MRP calculates that you have a net requirement for the part because you have only 90 in stock and have demand for 100, then it will generate an unfirm order for the balance 10 or whatever the lot size quantity is. However, it will still be your decision to accept the new job.

If you really need to replace the scrapped items because of a critical need, or time lag until the job is complete, you can always do so within the job itself. It really is your decision.

When parts are rejected at the operation level, they are sent to
Inspection processing for review. When they get rejected at this level
they are sent to DMR Processing. Now we reject the parts - they are
scrap.

Question: WHY DOESN'T THE ORIGINAL JOB# REDUCE BY THE AMOUNT SCRAPPED?
AND HOW DOES THE SYSTEM KNOW THAT YOU MAY NEED TO PRODUCE MORE PARTS TO
REPLACE THE SCRAPPED PCS.
