4.0 and 5.0 on the Same Server

My suggestion would be to totally block access to the version 4 directories
even for the administrator, while installing version 5. Progress tries to
find an old version to upgrade and you do not want to do this.

Also study up on the -B parameter you may need to detune version 4 giving
back some memory to make room for version 5 to run.

All you will need to do when you cut over is do the database conversions
again, I think a majority of users did it this way, call epicor tech support
they can help with the modified steps since it is not done exactly this way
in the installation guide.

In order to work around what we are hoping are hardware-related issues on
our Vantage 5.0 test server, we were looking at installing a test version of
5.0 (Progress) on our production (4.0) server.

I know the Vantage Installation Guide says the two version can co-exist on
the same server, but has anyone run into any issues in doing this?

Thanks

We ran three versions (3.0, 4.0 and 5.0) on the same server for awhile. The only issue we had was human error. I was installing a patch for 4.0, and mistakenly left the default drive path (which seems to always be the first version installed - 3.0 in our case) and it ruined the 3.0 install (which happened to be our LIVE database).

Moral: Check the drive paths carefully for progress and vantage whenever doing maintenance and installs.

One user's experience (of stupidity).
