2007 W-2 Changes and Vantage 6-1

Why does the IRS continue to screw with these reports and make these
changes. They don't seem to understand the work it causes and for what?
The information is the same!!! Our gov't officials wasting tax dollars
again.

HR informed me that some of 2007 paper W-2 fields have changed
locations. The forms that I have seen; show that the control number and
SSN fields have swapped field letters (a-d). The header line has been
rearranged as well.

The electronic export file needs updating to show 0's in certain fields
vs. blank entries. Fields that come to mind are Deferred Compensation
Contributions to section 401k, nontaxable combat pay, and Designated
Roth Contributions to a section 401k. I guess we were allowed to submit
these as blank entries and now they must show the number.

With my limited knowledge of HR, payroll and the SSA/IRS; these are the
changes that I can see on paper. I hope there are no hidden changes
that will show up later.

I connect with Access and create a text export that prints in whatever
forms I choose. I did the efile for 2006 with the file generated by
Vantage 6.1 and it accepted it. In case it changes, I can made
modifications in Access and export a file that the ssa would accept - a
lot cheaper than custom programming and you would be prepared for
whatever changes to come.

We also used the default export from Vantage in 2006 and we were
informed that the file was out of compliance with their standards. We
were told that for 2007, the file would have to be up to date.
Your Access method sounds interesting. Would you be available off-group
to answer some questions?
